Hi.

Query for owners of a big Outwell polycotton.

I notice that these come with alloy poles.  Never having seen one close up, I'm curious to know if the poles work in exactly the same way as Outwell steel poles, on say a Montana ?  I mean, are the pole connections a mixture of round and shaped square and "D" ends ?

Does anyone have any views about a preference for these over steel, apart from the weight ?

Ours is a curved pole all in one, so you dont have the legs to put onto the top. You need to fit the poles together in a pre determined way so that you get the right curve. Really hard to get wrong though!!

I dont personally like the way that you have to put the hole pole in at once, I preferred it when you could fit the top part of the poles in first then put the legs on.

Have had a monty and a bearlake 6, and I prefered the monty poles, just found it easier to put the legs on afterwards, and the steel ones seemed stronger, when pitching our Bearlake the alloy poles seemed like they may not be up to the job and was always felt worried they would bend with the weight of the tent, they were mighty also fiddlier to thread through than the monty. That said our Bearlake has gone back due to leaking like mad so am probably a bit anti BL at the moment, would still not get another tho, and we are currently trying to decide what we want to replace it with  !
