The Carolina is a lovely looking tent, so many windows However, I don't own one, so I can't advise you about pitching - but now that I've bumped your post back up to the top, hopefully a Carolina owner will notice it & be able to help you
Hi guys thanks for your interest I did put the details in another post,I double posted by accident(never used a forum before) In a nut shell not enough slack on the pins to get them in the poles and no tension straps as there have been on every other ring and pin tent I have owned, it also shows tension straps on outwells how to pitch video. Everybody seems to find it easy to pitch - exept me !!!!!!! I have pitched a few tents in my time and never had this problem before, all the reviews I read etc said categorically EASY to pitch which is why I am starting to feel like there may be a problem with the tent or the poles, we did have other kind hearted campers have a go at it too but there just dosent seem to be enough slack on the ground tapes to get the pins in both ends. As I said before the video shows tension straps and there are none on ours hence nothing to give us that room to manouver and then tighten later. It would be handy to know if there are tension straps on other peoples. If they have changed the design since filming the video and no longer have tensioners and nobody else sems to have a problem getting the pins in then I am inclined to belive the tent is faulty. Could another owner please let me know if they have tension straps on the pins.
im not sure what you mean by tension straps? My pins are on fabric strips?, i put a pin in one side then if its tight to get the pin in the other side just pull the fabric over the pole a bit more. The fabric on the pole sleeve isnt getting caught on the lip where the leg and the roof bar slot together is it? I know my carolina does that which will make getting the 2nd pin in its hole difficult.

Hi paperclip, if you are saying you havnt got ANY adjustable straps on one side of your tent, and the outwell video shows them present, plus cross camping are saying they should be present on one side, then I would suggest that your tent is faulty, and you should return it ASAP. Good luck . . .
My Carolina has tension straps on one side. I can put it up by myself (5'7" female) if it's not windy.
It also has a hole in the fabric after only 8 days of use so is in the process of being returned!

thanks for the help guys, I found a video on utube of some crazy guy pitching this tent alone and it didnt look like he had tension straps on his model, but I took note of his method of getting the pins in. After trying again in the garden we did manage to get the pins in but I would not say it was easy. I wasnt really comfortable with the amount of force that was needed and I was scared I was going to break something either on the tent or me! My husband only has the full use of one hand so I had to do this bit by myself. the real fun was getting them out afterwards, that took two of us!
I am happy now that I know we can pitch it it properly and can have it up in under 15 minutes as I love the tent and was impressed with its performance even when it wasnt pinned up properly, it withstood some really bad winds that even killed some tents on the same field. But I am still at a loss as to why the tension straps are no longer on this model of tent, they obviously make it so much easier to pitch with much less risk of damaging the fabric or poles.
Sorry to hear about the hole in yours jo I hope you get it sorted out.
Paperclip, if you have the funds get yourself a Michigan extension makes a huge difference to the tent, just needs a couple of adjustments but well worth it
