Hi everyone I would like to buy a new tent but it has been so long since I bought my last one that I have no idea what different technologies have developed and what brands are making good tents. I see alot of shop brands such as Blacks at various campsites, are these really as good as other makes like North Face, Jack Wolfskin, Vango etc?

It will need to sleep 2 people comfortably for week long holidays in the UK, mainly on the North Devon coast. It would be nice to have some space in the front of the tent for sitting etc. My current tent is a three main (obeying the old rule of buying a tent that is one man bigger than required!). Any advice would be well received!

Can you give us a bit more of an idea about the kind of tent you want, eg. Will you be travelling by car or backpacking?

If by car, do you want full standing height? Full sewn in groundsheet, zip in, or loose groundsheet in the living area? A living area with space to fit a table & chairs?

If backpacking, what is the maximum weight you would prefer? Tunnel or dome?

I will be travelling by car. I have always had a tent that you can move about in but never at full standing height so it might be nice to have an area where you can completely stand up etc. I have seen tents where you can actually have a table and chairs in a seperate, covered compartment next to the sleeping area. This would be nice. It would probably also be useful to have a tent that could sleep another person (family planning!).

Sewn in groundsheet would be useful because then the tent is fully waterproof from the word go. I have always found this useful for putting a tent up in the rain, then the sleeping part just hangs in.

How long could a tent last? Is it feasible to be looking for a tent that would also be suitable for additional family members in the next few years?

Thanks Sue. Do you think the fact that there would be an issue with the roof section holding water i.e. little puddles of water being trapped. This is an issue with my current tent and was told that it is because it is not completely rounded (i.e. a semi circle):
