hi, i have just joined the cotton brigade by buying and old cotton tent (not collected yet) as i have not seen it yet and knowing that my wife is all for a bug free environment my question is this. can i give the tent a SIG or is that just ridiculous? what do other campers do to protect from the bugs in their tents?

I think thats not really possible....or practical.

Buy a ground sheet slightly larger than the footprint, then bring the edges up inside the flaps...not to high or they`ll be touching the canvas.....badly explained but I know what I mean.

Bugs are inevitable when camping

from one cotton canvas tenter to another

good old groundsheet works for us, never had more than an occasional john lennon or ringo starr visit the tent

bedroom pod will have sewn in groundsheet, just remember to zip the door up every time you come out of the pod.

we have a small piece of cedar wood (we use this at home too) hanging with the clothes to keep moths and other flying things away

happy canvas camping

Sharon

If your tent has mudflaps that peg down on the outside, pull the flaps well in to the tent and place an oversized groundsheet (about 30cms wider & longer than the footprint of the tent) on top of the flaps. Hold down at strategic points with heavy objects around the edge and you will have the best of both worlds - ventilation if you need it and a fairly draughtproof/bugproof living area.

Also remember the bedroom pod(s) will almost certainly have a sewn in groundsheet.

Hi magpiesnest.

Fitting a SiG, would be a challenge, when I was looking for a new Cotton tent, Mr's Francais insisted it had to be ZiG or SiG, we eventualy found one but they are thin on the ground, unless you have a large budget, then there is always Karsten or De Waard, but your talking of a serious investment at 3K for a tent!.

Andy.

Hypercamp Rosas

A few people have bought Hypercamps from here recently with positive results.

check the Dutch Pyramide Appreciation Society thread, somewhere in the last 10 or so pages I think there are pictures.
