I managed to get my Nevada 3 up in my inlaws bigger back garden, very proud of myself as I've never put a tent up in my life, but not so proud when it took me 3 attempts to get it back in the bag!!

I know I'm going to look really thick here but I didn't know what to do with guy ropes, I undid the black velcro unraveled the ones I wanted to use, so I had the white plastic widget hanging at the bottom, then I realised I have no idea what I'm meant to do next to secure them to the ground (god I feel daft even writing this) I just made it up for my practise, but obv want to make sure I'm doing it right for when we take it away. All advice gratefully received!!

This is my first post so please be kind if I gt it wrong or i've misunderstood you.
The plastic widget you can slide up the guy, yeah?
Once you have slide it up it should form a loop of line beneath it, with me so far?
You then put your peg in that loop and bang into ground, then you can slide the widget up and down the line to tighten or loosen the guy as neccessary.
Does that all make sense ?

Makes sense to me but then i have put a few tents up, below is a picture of a slidy thingy, not plastic but does the same job, As Oddy says create a loop at the botom and pass the peg through the loop, then hammer the peg into the ground at approx 45 degrees to the surface. Once the peg is in you can slide the plastic thingy up the guy rope towards your tent, this will tighten the guy rope.

Oddy, Welcome to UKCS

Right - firstly well done getting the tent up - I knew you'd do it!! Now for the guys - difficult to explain in writing but here goes!

Pull the little white thing (the slider) up the guy (there are sort of 2 loops - pull out the one nearest the knot) - this will leave a loop that you can adjust - peg out through this loop. You need to adjust it so that the guy rope is taut and at approximately 45 degree angle to the ground. When you knock in the tent pegs they also need to be at a 45 degree angle sloping in towards the tent. This way the guy and the peg is at a 90 degree angle. (Hope that makes sense!).

Make sure the tension is about the same all round the tent.

The guy ropes need to be positioned so that they follow the seam of the tent.

Tighten/loosen the guys with the sliders.

Before you do any guying or finish pegging out, make sure the door is zipped closed or you will find you struggle with the zip.

Use ALL the guys even if you think it is well enough pegged out without them all - they are there for a purpose and there seems to be a lot of folk around this year who don't bother to use them all - very foolish IMO as wind can get up very quickly!

As far as getting the tent back in the bag, fold it into a long rectangle slightly narrower than the bag, place the poles in their bag across the width of the tent at the end away from the (open) door and roll tightly - if necessary immediately unroll and then reroll to get out even more air and make the sausage shape smaller - it should then fit.

Something that I always do is remove the inner bedroom pod before rolling up - I find the tent is so much easier to pitch with only the flysheet then you can clip in the bedroom afterwards. However, this makes pitching a bit slower but that is just my preference. When I do this, I just fold the 2 pieces and roll together as above.

Hope some of this makes sense - I'm hopeless at explaining things - I bet by the time I hit post reply someone else will have posted a much more easy to understand reply!

Well done Thewper - doesn't it feel great when you finally manage it? It's a great tent isn't it?  I'm so chuffed with mine. I also had difficulty getting it back in the bag - it sat in the living room in a heap all night because I got so fed up!

Foster Mum - thanks for your tips with the guy ropes and your instructions on putting up the Nevada 3 in another post.  I've copied them and will keep them handy next time I pitch mine. So much easier to follow than the Outwell instructions.

Thank you
