I was just wondering if it's possible to do any damage to your tent when packing it back into it's bag? I'm thinking of things like the windows and the seams maybe. It was blowing a gale when we packed up on Wednesday and it was a case of stuff it back in the bag before it blows away and we didn't have the option of trying to fold it neatly or anything. I actually got it out again today and folded it up again in the garden but even then it still needs sitting on and squashing down to get it to fit back in the bag which would appear to negate any attempt to fold it properly.
I'm probably worrying needlessly but maybe one of you experienced campers could put me straight.

It will be fine. I have to lie and sit on mine once rolled to get all the air out to get it back in the bag.

Avoid dragging on a rough surface though!

Put a hole in a tent when folding it in the garden, it was layed slightly over a path and I dragged it as I rolled it up, horrible grating sound as a pole clip rubbed across the path making multiple holes in the fabric.

moral of the story grass good,
concrete bad.

I have managed to hole a tent by nipping the fly in a zip whilst packing it back into its valise. A case of more speed less haste perhaps.

Just don't roll the poles up in it then sit on it to squish it. Pack them seperate if must be....and if so, remember poles are delicate. Don't throw an unpadded bag of poles into the boot of the car or heavy stuff in top of them. Don't do that even if they ARE padded!

Best thing to do is to take a large bin bag or Ikea blue bag with you in case you need to pack up in a hurry or if the flysheet is wet.  Then you can stuff the tent loosely into it till you get home and can do the packing properly.

A lot of folk just buy a bigger tent bag, btw. Unstructured holdalls are pretty good.
