Hi,
I'm looking for a small tent to use on scout trips in the autumn. This one has a good hydrostatic head and seems cheap. Anybody got one who can tell me what they're like to live with please?

I'd been following this and another thread but they're about a 2 man tent with a flat roof that I didn't like the look of. This one is a dome.

Thanks

Just bought one of these to add to my collection ( now 7 tents!!) Managed to get it for £14.50 +pp so I thought it has to be a bargain. I also have the 2 man lightweight tent from Ohvee which I reviewed recently having taken it to the western Isles in diabolical weather.

The 2 man tent has faults which make it unsuitable for anything other than British summer weather but at the price i paid for it makes a good value hiking /touring tent in most conditions if a little uncomfortable.

I just got the 3 man`mountain `tent out to check it over. Its made of the same materials as the lightweight tent including the alloy poles.

First impressions are that its not bad for the price. The workmanship is better than the 2 man tent, I think this is just the luck of the draw. The seams are well sealed and there arent any loose threads. The geodesic design means there are no large areas of fly sheet which can stick to the inner during windy/wet weather, a bad fault in the 2 man tent.

My concern is the poles. These are decent quality and worked well with the low profile smaller tent . This tent is much higher and the poles much longer. I havent tested it in wind but I think it could be less stable/reliable despite the geodesic design. This is not helped by the very short lengths of pole sleeves which means the pole have less support.

Some plus points are : the design should shed water better than the lightweight tent and their is plenty of room for TWO people plus gear if you are cycle touring or hiking. Loads of headroom for sitting up. The weight is ok if shared between two people. I like the two doors.

This is a good cheap tent for 2 people touring / hiking in weather which is not exteme. Three people would be pushing it. As for being a `mountain` tent  !!!!
