Recently returned from 5 days on the Norfolk coast with my new Bell Tent. Husband working long hours at the mo, so decided to take the two children myself.
Managed to erect it on my own (it's a canvas and cast bell tent), though took fair bit longer than 15 mins as I'm a faffer. And the children were being annoying and unhelpful! The ground was also pretty hard so the pegging out was real labour. However it was also windy and this was where the heavier canvas bell tent was at an advanatage. It wasn't like trying to tame a wild kite!
Once it was up, it was fantastic. I piled the beds into a makeshift sofa for daytimes giving plenty of space for playing children (not just mine, the bell tent seemed to attract half of the campsite kids - think they thought it was a circus tent). It was warm and secure, no leaking at all - though not much rain anyway, we were extremely lucky!
It terms of the make itself, it was excellent. I had a problem or two with the first bell tent C&C sent, and they replaced with no quibbles. Great customer service.
The only feedback I gave them as a slight negative is that the wall ties do need to be more substantial material. Not sure what they are made of, but they do fray too easily and I'm not convinced they'll go the distance (maybe I'll be proved wrong), I think I'll look towards finding some way to replace them with something sturdier.
However the canvas, the A frame, the steel pole, mud flaps, groundsheet, everything else was top. The ropes and wooden sliders also. Someone came and erected a bell tent opposite us 2 days after we arrived. A tents direct one. And I did prefer mine, their's didn't seem to sit right at all, the mudflaps were almost sailing off the ground here and there, I'm not sure if that's usual for that make at all - they weren't happy with that part of it and were going to complain. They had done a much better job at interior design though, they'd obviously been collecting all the right textiles and cushions! Though we had bought the same token sheepskin rug. It was quite amusing as they arrived and started pitching, we were peering at each other curiously, like owners with the same dog! Suddenly the campsite looked rather like a hippy commune! It was lovely though, as their children and mine were in and out of each other's tents!
I loved rolling up the sides, no problems with bugs (few ladybirds, but there are millions of those this year!) and a couple of stag beetles I noticed as we were packing up - but it was kind of like pets really
Hopefully some pics here...
