We've just come back from our first trip using our Horizon 8 (we previously had Wynnster Raven 8 but it wasn't up to scratch so we swapped for this one, which we are really pleased with). The only slight niggle is that the end door (the big on at the end of the tent) was letting in quite a draught. Probably only really noticed it because it was so windy this weekend!!

The Raven 8 didn't have an end door so we have nothing to compare it to, but I expected it to have a zip or something along the bottom. Is there anything we can do to improve it? Maybe stitch so velcro in so it attaches itself to the tent a little better?

We only use the bedrooms at one end of the tent, so I guess if we were using the big bedroom at the end of the big door we wouldn't have noticed it anyway......

Has the end door got a storm flap at the bottom? And is there a ground sheet you could tuck the storm flap under? If there's a ground sheet but no storm flap, nip down to Lidl, get one of their cheap tarps to cut up and stitch a ten inch strip along the base of the door, so that you can tuck it under.

Out of interest what was wrong with the Raven?

Hi there. We liked the tent itself (which is why we’ve replaced it with the very similar Horizon 8), but we think we were sent an old model by mistake (we paid for the 2009 model). The “problems” were very minor, but the issue we had was that it was being advertised as having various features that were blatantly absent from our tent, e.g:

1. No emergency repair kit.

2. Guy Line tidies - "elastic loops that are attached to the tent so that the guy lines can be quickly and conveniently tidied".

3. Secondary mesh doors.

After comparing the tent side by side with the other new Raven 8, other differences included:

- The flysheet crossed over at each corner of the tent instead of being a continuous piece of fabric as it is on our tent (this is also clear when you zoom in on the tent image on the Wynnster website)

- The windows at the end of the tent were velcroed down the side to enable them to be shut fully - on our tent there is just a single piece of velcro on the bottom

- The 2 main windows were very obviously bigger (wider) than our tent;

So, like I said, nothing major but enough to make use had been slightly mislead.

Fortunately, the company we purchased it from was excellent and gave a full refund and collected the tent once we had made them aware of the issues.

Not sure which model I have, I paid for the 2008 model, has all the things you listed except we have velcro down the side of the windows, not sure about window size etc, but we love it. Sorry can't help about the Horizon though.

(Did you buy from OBI seeing as you are in Bridgend?)

know exeactly what you mean about the large door...
we have the same problem , but its better to have this end on the tail end of the wind (sealed end of tent head on into wind).
we had it like that last weekend & it was quite windy but we never felt much of a draught.
i suppose you could sew in velco , i was thinking of doing that too !

Hi Vikki,

We bought the Raven online, but we went to OBI to buy the Horizon. Fab shop, and the owner really knows his stuff! Bridgend Camping is a good store too, if you ever venture a bit down east ;-)
