Hi everyone. Went camping for the first time in a long long time over the weekend with a group of friends to Silverdale and fell in love with it. I think the exact moment was sat around the fire looking up at the clearest sky I've ever seen and someone saying "What time is it" to which the reply came "What does it matter?"

No phone, no PC, no TV, no work.... I've never, ever felt freedom like it.

I'd really love to do some camping on my own which I imagine will only increase that feeling of freedom.

I stayed in my friends massive super tent (Which was more like a house). It's a touch bulky and large for me to take on a train haha.

Could anyone suggest any good quality tents (IE wont leak or snap in a bit of wind)?

I don't need to back pack it but do need to be able to carry it in one hand when packed up (via handles on carry case I hope).

2 or 3 berth but the really important bit is I would love to have a porch big enough for me to sit outside under cover and have a good read/cook my tea.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks :)

Ash

Oo I am sorry, I've just realised there is a whole forum for tents.

Sorry about that.

You won't get one you can stand up in. Having said that, I bought a Khyam Highlander (3 berth?) to use on my own when camping with a friend. I've since shared it with my husband and we both fit in with our Fat Airics and clothes. You would also need a footprint groundsheet. Khyam do a sort of awning thing that goes over it and gives you quite a lot of outside space.

It's very stable and has stood up to some really bad weather and, best of all, it pitches in seconds with about 5 minutes to peg it down.

I don't think I can justify spending over £100 to be honest, I'm sure it's a smashing tent but ideally I'd like to spend no more than £70, I've looked through lots of tents, the two that seem to fit my needs best are the Vango Beta 250 and the Gelert Rocky 3...

Any thoughts on these tents? :).

Many thanks

Ash

Hi Ash

I had a look at the weekend and found the Vango Beta 350 which gives a bit more room and I think I will get one for me and my dog to go away in.  The price seems to be £90 although some places do them a bit cheaper online.
