We're just back from a totally disastrous weekend in which my husband drank too much, fell over in extension and ripped apart my beloved Monty 6. He totally trashed it!! Somehow he managed to rip to whole front corner apart from the roof to half way down the window. Luckily some emergency repairs (don't jou just love duck tape), jiggling of the extension and no heavy rain meant we didn't have to come home but now my Monty is no more.

I now get to buy a new tent (totally guilt free for once!!) but I can't decide what to go for. We need something with high head height - tent-trashing OH is 6ft 8 - and massive bedroom as we use a super-king airbed. I've been looking at the Outwell Arkansas but just can't decide. Does anyone have any suggestions?

sorry to hear that , but soumds as if you're already over it and looking forward to a new tent .

No suggestions for a replacement ,but ebay it either as damaged, spares or repair , or seperately. Sounds obvious , but its surprising how many people will just bin it , thinking its ripped its no good .

you should get a fair few quid for the poles, and the inner tent .
When I was looking for an inner tent last year they were selling for about £50 or more , and the poles about the same .

Thanks for the suggestion Debbie. The tent's already in the bin - it was in 3 pieces. I'm handy with a sewing machine but even I couldn't work out how to repair it properly without replacing the whole front and most of the porch side. I still have the inner tent (never been used as our bed's too big so I made my own) and all the poles (plus spares) so will probably have them on Ebay by the end of the week. Unless I decide to have another Monty! I just can't seem to find anything I like more. I'll probably wait to see what the new 2010 season brings.

How about the Outwell Florida , which you should be able to get for a price match at Gooutdoors for £405 as it is £449.95 at Yeomans at the present .

Hi Lisa Makepeace

Do you mean the thin bendy one? I'd have happily given it to you but I'm afraid that fell foul of OH drunkeness too and got left behind (with the canvas) in several pieces.

It's the last time we take a bottle of whiskey camping with us!17

My sister had the door canopy pole snap on her nevada xl , it happened again with the spare one too. she replaced it with a pole from a cheap kids tent, (you know the ones you get for less than a tenner in supermarkets . she just cut it to a couple of inches shorter than the original one , as the original one always seemed to be too long and put a lot of strain on the doorway . worked fine .

Can't rememeber if the pole on the monty was a fibreglass one or not, may have been an alloy pole ?(had a monty a few years back ) . My sisters one was a fibreglass one . But if its the right length I should think it could work okay, its the same way of fixing , the pole sits in 2 plastic cups attached to the sides of the doorway.
