We are looking to purchase the Outwell Hartford XXL, But are slightly concerned that it has only one skin (fly sheet no inner!). For those people that have this tent tent could you please comment on this and if you've had any problems ie condensation, warmt, wind and rain.

Many Thanks

Campbug

Hi

The current Hartford is a pitch outer first tent, with separate inners and SIG. It shouldn't have any specific problems, and most people seem to rate it highly.

We looked at getting this one but I was worried re pitch size and not being able to use it at certain sites or having to pay extra?

Hi campbug, we bought a hartford xxl this year ( our first tent ) simply because we have 2 small children and wanted plenty of space for them to play if it rained. So far we have used the tent on 2 long weekends, and, apart from a few bent tent pegs, we have had no problems with it. It has a SIG which is great as the OH doesnt like creepy crawlies, and the bedrooms are seperate, but the tent comes with all four bedrooms pre-attatched, so once the tent is up, you don't have to mess about attatching them. We did have a little condensation, but from what I understand this is to be expected with all tents, especially on really cold mornings, and if you open the doors when you get up, it soon goes. I would recommend buying the footprint groundsheet with it though, as this makes it easier to pitch. We also bought the carpet for it as well, which makes the living area a little bit more cosy.

Didn't really have strong winds when we camped, but had a couple of heavy showers and tent stayed dry inside. We got the tent from World of Tents who were doing an offer, buy the tent and get the footprint groundsheet free, don't know if this offer is still running, but might be worth a look.

If you are still not sure have a look at the tent reviews on this site.

Like I said this is our first tent, so haven't got anything to compare it with, but had some really good comments from other campers, and we are really pleased with it.

Hope this helps

Hi Campingbug,

We also own the Hartford XXL. And behalve of the normal condensation (polyester tent have this habbit ) we don't have any problems with it. Whe had some very strong winds and heavy rainshowers in the north of gemrany on our second trip this year early May, but it performed realy well. That means no rain dropping in an no flat tent deu to the wind
Oke in the full sun with 35 degrees celsius it is a bit hot in the tent. But who expects such temperatures in northern germany anyway.

All in all whe are realy happy with our tent, as i hope you will be with your's.

Marcel

with the right tent you don't need a caravan.

We bought this tent this summer and have used it 4 times.  It's fantastic!  We have camped in rain and strong winds and didn't have any problems at all.

We've got the footprint that goes with it which I highly recommend, plus the canopy that goes on the front.  It's got a massive living area so plenty of space for wardrobes and tables and chairs.

Would thoroughly recommend it.

Claire

Hi Campbug, didn't see the tent up, but saw an XL ( the 9 man version )and liked that, but we thought that the XXL would be bettter for a growing family.

Hi Campbug

We always view tents on utube, they show pitching, and set up. Just type tents, or camping. Plenty of vids to view...Enjoy.
