I am sooooo excited.  I have been after a pyramid tent for what seems like forever.  I've lost out on a couple on ebay, but finally (fingers crossed) I've got one.  A cabanon pyramid 6 with a sun canopy.  I cannot wait .  Am now planning a trip at the end of the month with OH.  We often camp late September but always get awful condensation, not this time!    Wooohoooo  

Can you tell I'm excited!!!!

A couple of quick questions for those in the know, I've always had polyester tents before, monty with Sig and VV500 with bathtub.  The P6 has no groundsheet in the living area, in the red hot summers we have (cough cough) I should imagine thats quite nice, but late September the ground is likely to be a bit sodden, what do you guys use as a groundsheet?  Just a b&q tarp?

Also tips on pitching would be gratefully received!

For the living area, you could use any tarp cut to size but if you can, try and get a decent quality groundsheet so you dont get that horrible crackling noise when you walk on it.

Pitching a pyramid is easy.

Lay the tent out and peg the corners

Peg all the rubbers

Open the door and go inside with the 2 front upright poles and the pole(s) that go across the front between the 2 uprights.

If there are sleeves, thread the across pole(s) through and put the upright pole spikes through the loops on the end of the across pole and through the holes in the canvas.

Raise the front by standing the 2 upright poles up and put a couple of temp guylines on to hold the front up.

Take the backpole inside, stick the spike though the hole and raise the back

Peg out all the stormlines

If the canopy is seperate, attach it to the front of the tent , I imagine this will be just a case of putting the canopy over the front pole spikes .

Put the canopy poles in place and remove the temp guylines from the tent and put them on the canopy poles

Peg the canopy down

Hang bedrooms

Done

Easier than it sounds, honest

Hey Sarah,

You are right, put the poles in BEFORE pegging the bottom rubbers . You can do them first but if you put the poles in first, you can check that the mudflaps are all in and flat.

Dont talk to me about groundsheets....

2 days ago I drove to 4 camping stores looking for a decent thick one for our frame tent. Not one to be found anywhere.

So took the easy way out and ordered one from Esvo and it arrived less than 24 hours later :)

I never use a tarp under the gs in a tent without a sig as it could collect water and that water could get inside the tent.

But in saying that, I do intent to make one a little smaller than the bedrooms for the FT to keep those cleaner.

Glad you are having fun with the old girl :)

Now back to having the hump as we were meant to be going camping tomorrow but the wind states otherwise :(

Not sure how me not camping benefits anyone. I seem to be confusing myself most of the time but I am good at finding tents if you want one lol

The hardest part is getting the canvas nice and tight.

Look here and scroll down to afb 6 for  a diagram on the pegging order for a pyramid. I know it is a De Waard but the pegging order is similar on all pyramids so you can use it as a guide.

I totally understand your excitement . There is something special about being in a pyramid. And for me, the bedrooms are so cosy and romantic. Love ' em :)

Tip... the inside edges are not usuable space with regards to sitting etc so that is a good place to store your gear in folding crates etc then the space is no longer unusable.

Ooohhhh - how exciting - I'd love a pyramid and always drool over all the gorgeous pics of them on here (usually posted by Angie!).
