Bought a brand new Vermont XL this week and pitched it for the first time today.  Unfortunately, it's not what we wanted...

The problem is that it only has 2 bedrooms, not 3.  The big bedroom with the curtain down the middle would be ok, except the curtain doesn't fasten at the bottom.  So a small child could (and will) crawl around both rooms.  We bought it specifically so we could have 3 separate bedrooms and know that the kids were safely zipped up.

Has anyone ever successfully altered the inner to fasten the curtain to the bottom?  Or does anyone have any tips on how to solve our problem?  It's looking as though we'll have to sell the tent on at a loss without ever having used it.

The easiest way to fix this would be to sew on a strip of fabric a few inches deep ,

Allow a few inches so that the curtain isn't being stretched downwards under tension at all, ( a cheap bedsheet perhaps ) along the bottom of the curtain and stitch this to the floor of the pod.

Another way would be to attach the edge of a double duvet cover with buttons on to the bottom of the curtain, and the opposite side of the duvet cover with buttonholes stitched to the pod floor, and tuck this flap under the airbed so that the kids don't even know there is an escape route and you still have the option of opening the pods up if you want to in the future.

but why is it so important to keep the kids contained in their seperate pods ? they can only escape into the bedroom next door anyway?
you say a small child crawling , but if its a very young one, maybe a travel cot would be a solution .

Thanks Debbie.  I have a friend who can sew so I will try to get her on the case!

We were thinking we would go in the middle room, and we didn't want to be woken up (or in any way disturbed) by one of our kids.  In our current tent we share with the baby and were hoping to finally get some privacy.

If we can fix it as you suggested then the tent will be perfect.

I thought all Outwell 'universal inners' were seperated by a zip open divider, our Sunvalley is.We just unzip and tie it back.......

What is the point of calling them universal inners when they are all different.

I just wanted to add that I have found a solution.  I've found a tent repair company that are going to stitch up the divider curtain to make two separate pods.  I am so happy because it will now be the perfect tent for us.  The company website is below in case any one else has the same issue.

Hoonette how many bedroom zipped doors are there on your tent? If 3 then it a XL if 2 then you could have an L instead of XL.

It's definitely an XL :)  Has 3 bedroom doors.

we find on ours that when we have the air beds in place the 'curtain' fits between them and the kids dont bother trying to get underneath then!
