Hi,

Has anyone come across problems with the Minnesota 4 front extension?  I managed buy one earlier this year, when we used it we found that the straps to attach it to the main tent were not quite long enough.  It will attach but it is a very tight fit which pulls the extension too far over the tent so the seam doesn't sit on the pole and this makes the windows sag.

Hello and welcome to the forum.  First post. 17

If you look at the tent review section (see button near top of screen) you will discover that at least two of us have had problems with quality control regarding the Minny 4 Extension; mine has exactly the same problem as you describe.  But the extension is so crucial, in my opinion, and it can be so fifficult to get hold of one, that I was willing to put up with it.

If it's a serious concern then one alternative to returning it is to shorten the poles by an inch or so.  But if you do this remember to keep the black pastic brackets at the end of the poles that the pins are inserted into and to file off any sharp burrs so as not to damage the extension or you as you pitch it.

Good luck.

Hello lorraiben, as scout mentiones, quality control issues do crop up from time to time with outwells,  Are you refering to the 2 long straps that connect onto the centre pole ? ?  if so, the best bet is to remove them and replace with some longer lengths of 20mm webbing, which you can then adjust to the correct tension, this can be purchased off the roll at most good camping stores. This is what I had to do.   I wouldnt use it as it is, as excessive tension could cause damage. Also, you are unlikely to be able to get it replaced as everywhere seems to have sold out of the minny extensions now.

Hi,

Many thanks for your quick responses!  It is the two webbing straps that clip on to the centre pole that are too short.  I think that I will contact Outwell about this problem as I'm not sure about stitching new webbing on myself!  We have also had trouble with the porch pole snapping twice, I contacted Outwell and after several weeks received a reply.  They sent me a replacement set of poles free of charge, we'll see how we got on with these!

Hi,  Regarding stitching on new webbing, you dont have to stitch anything on as such. Just cut the old strap off the ring on the extension, then thread the new longer piece through the ring and glue apx a one inch overlap using epoxy glue, clamp it until dry, then thread the other end through the adjuster, as was the original one ! It wont come apart.

Hi,

Thanks for this Mick, I will certainly try the new webbing.  The extension is packed away after last weekend's trip and as it is my husband who connects the extension to the tent I wasn't quite sure how the webbing fastens on.  I'm too short to reach the top poles!  Thanks for your help!
