I have an old mountaincraft 2-man  protech tunnel tent that has full D shaped openings at each end with double zippers for either mesh alone, mesh partially to fully unzipped

or mesh partially or fully sealed with the other non mesh zipper

The fly sheet also unzips either end .

This is brilliant in hot dry airless weather, but a 2man is too small - it is only 5ft  across, I need a min of 6ft width and around 7ft length {200cm min)

What can I get now that has the same features plus a reasonable porch area (under £100)

Nearest I've seen are well over my budget, vango typhoon or hurricane.

But.... whilst having flysheet openings and inner tent doors at either end, they only have coverable half mesh zippers.

Looks good, opens each end, very nice size for two , weight is reasonable, colour fine,  but it doesn't say whether there is a zippable cover to the inner mesh doors?

I'll have to ring and ask

Hi willm,

Saw this and thought of your thread!

From the photo it looks like it has seperate mesh doors on inner tent but not outer doors.....it does have a door at each end though....and just wide enough?

http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/camping-equipment/outdoor-tents/gelert-colima-3-person-quick-492981.html

Hope you find one.

Might be worth a look.

Hi

that is indeed a very good suggestion, I enquired and the Colima 4  does have the double mesh/fabric full doors at each end.

However......................

I would have definitely bought the green version but nobody has them left in stock that I can find, including that site you linked. They haven't bothered to update their website accordingly.

Unforunately I would never buy a tent  with red on it, what are Gelert playing at by replacing the green with that colour?  {festival crowd probably )

I decided upon the Coleman Rock Springs 4 mentioned above.

I very much like the muted colours and altho' It is lacking mesh on the back inner door it has a full fabric zip door there and also triangular mesh up in the roof of the inner

The front entrance has full double zip doors, one mesh and t'other fabric.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Thi may be too late....ignore if tent already purchased!

This seller(ebay I'm afraid) says they do have stock of the 2008 green in this tent. If you ring Andy on 01472 268188 he can check it's the right one for you.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260421596552&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

I was enquiring for myself but have decided it is too heavy for my needs!

Hi Willm

Would be interested in your experience with the Rock Springs. I recently brought one for the very same reasons along with it being flame retardant, plus a good review in the "Camping" mag (see post topic on the tent on this site), but I am bit nervous about condensation dripping through the mesh at the top of the inner tent as I have since discovered a user review that mentioned it as a minor problem (although as the tent was given almost top marks overall in the review, it must be very minor!).

I have wondered whether there were any pitching tips to reduce the condensation. I have also considered making a bow tie shaped shower proof piece of fabric (i.e. the shape of the mesh) with eyelets and suspending it on the toggles supporting the inner tent so that there is a gap both above and below for air flow and to maintain a gap between the inner and fly. It should then catch any dripping condensation. Still just an idea at this point and probably not one I'd pursue unless I found a problem myself.

As Coleman have brought out a new 3 man version for 2010 as well as the 4 man, it must be a successful design and in all other respects does seem to be a brilliant low-level tent!

Anyway - if you or anyone else has any experience or advice, it would be appreciated! 17
