I'm looking for a tent for myself and my two young sons - something that we can to throw in the back of the car for weekend use.

Idealy, we would like something that is 210cm wide - length not that important as I'm the tallest at 5' 8", and the car would be used for storage.

We would like something that we could make use of in the Scottish Borders from early Spring through to mid Autumn, so have minimum of 4000 hydostatic-head flysheet in mind.

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Hi,
was thinking of getting a coleman Phad X3 to use for winter/wild camping. Might suit you requirements.

Best price is about £120.

Couple of others worth a nosey might be Vango Hurricane 300 (geodesic, and pretty solid) and Vango Spirit 300+.

Hi Inquirer,

Are you looking for a small backpacker type tent or something you can stand up in? Reason I ask is Vango are bringing back technical family tents next season - the Nevis 400, 600 and 800. Alloy poles, TBS system, 5000mm HH. The 400 might be just the job for you.

OK as I always suggest when this type of question comes up. What about a four meter bell tent.

-------------
Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

I would have suggested a pyramid tent Angie, but I knew you could be relied upon to do that. I was thinking that my want list for cotton tents had be filled, but now you have reminded me that I still want one of these. I do have a ridge sort of version but it's not quite the same thing is it. It looks the same from the front, but not to the side or rear.

Or a 4 metre lavvu without a sig - can't be having all them muddy boots making a mess. Just bung a tarp down inside to put the sleep mats on, and leave the door clear.

HI Paul. That is very interesting news. I have a Vango Quest 600 which was their last family sized tent with those high spec materials. I am glad to hear that they are renewing this approach as the Quest has stood up to tremendously bad weather over the years and is still going strong. (AND we got it from Outdoor Megastore too).

Hi Foggers,

Yep, it's absolutely in the same mould as the Quest. As  you say, they were great tents and I'm not quite sure why Vango would let the idea of a technical family tent lie fallow for a couple of years before bringing them back. Certainly in their absence Robens tents (partcualrly the Double and Triple Dreamers) have stolen a bit of that market from them. However the TBS would make Vango my choice if using in 3-season conditions.

Cheers, Paul

(Oh, and thanks for your past business - much appreciated)

I'd be looking at one of the smaller Outwell polycottons like the Baltic Sea. It gets cold and windy on that Scottish border you know!

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.
