hi all we recently bought a new tent gelert maridian10 it has a 5000hh but i wanted to fabsil it to protect against uv rays and also to give it that all round total proofing that fabsil does the thing is the mrs rekons if we do it the warranty will be void if anything goes wrong is this the case or do i go ahead and seal it just wanted the uv protection more than anything to prevent the tent fabric from getting bleached by the sun with the added bonus of ultra water proofing it what say you folks?
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
fabsil is not a uv protector, it is only a reproofer and a bad one at that as it is sylycone based and leaves a slight stain to the fabric.
best proffer with a slight uv proof is to use are Nikwax tent and gear proof, or if you like the aeresol type, Company called Storm proof do a fabsil equivalent which is not sylicone based so no staines, and i swear i have seen this. spay a even coating on a piece of tissue paper, elastic band it round a pint of water and turn upside down, perfectly water tight.
Uv will break you tent down eventually.Have a look at outdoor displays that have had tents out for 6 to 7 weeks. You wife is right i recon it would void the warranty if you had something wrong, plus a new tent should not need waterproofing anyway so it should not suffer from any leaks.
I have used Fabsil on my tents but only after a couple of years because 1 dirt get in and the waters seeps through the dirtSo iv cleaned with a specilaist tent cleaner then re proofed.
Agree with Keely. You don't need to coat a new Gelert tent with Fabseal or anything else, it's already waterproof. You'll be doing more harm than good.
------------- Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.
