Hi, back again and in need of more help, may have to post this question again if noone spots it. We have the option of two tents and can't work out which to go for,

1. Secondhand, but only used for one season Gelert Quebec 8+4, which has very good reviews, good sleeping space, but uncertain the living space will be enough at 160cm wide by approx 300cm. Has hh of 3000mm and useful extras like loft storage and cupholder. all for under £100.00

2.Easy camp Ancona 800, new, but with a lesser hh of 2000. It does however have a considerably larger living space of approx 300cm by 240cm widening at the entrances.Sleeping space is smaller prob comfortable for 3 in each end, but we are not likely to have more than 4/5 plus dog in it anyway. Only has a couple of reviews, but both good and again under £100.00

We are struggling to make final decision so advice please, oh and prob only going to be summer campers for the time being if that affects advice.
Thanks again you lovely people, charlie

I would go for the higher HH

(though I haven't looked up each tent to see what they look like etc)

Have looked at them both (quickly)

No 1 was £150 when new - but now discontinued
http://www.winwood-outdoor.co.uk/acatalog/Gelert_Quebec_8_person_Family_Tent.html

No2 - struggled to find it anywhere but £100 new is good compared to the one I did find at £171
http://www.essexcamping.com/code/products.asp?recid=619&subcatid=107

Is £100 your maximum budget?

I'm not familiar with either tent, both seem to have pros and cons.

The Gelert has a higher HH (although that means nothing if its not been taken care of - it makes no difference how tightly woven the material is, if the seams are shot or the material damaged you'll get wet!!), its a more practical size to erect, the living area looks ok - although you might struggle to get 5 people and a dog sitting in comfort.  Remember that the bigger sleeping area needs more heating, if just the three of you go and your daughter sleeps alone in one pod, she might find its a bit chilly.

The Easy Camp is 7m long by the looks of things, that might make it more troublesome to erect.  You do get a better living area and I don't think the smaller sleeping pods would be a huge issue.

Both erect inner first, which if you know what you're doing and can get the tent up quickly between rain showers won't be a problem.  But it is something to bear in mind as some people don't like this.

Hope thats been some help.  If it was me I'd probably plump for the Gelert out of the two, depending on its condition.

Going to go with some more experienced friends to the orchard campsite in suffolk apr/may then somerset in july and after that we'll see if we're brave enough to do france or a spain yay!!
Will let you know once tent is bought, taking nearly as long as buying a new house ha ha

From you previous post - above

I would be upping the budget if possible and going for something other than one of those two.
As someone else said spend as much as you can on the tent and the rest of your kit can be minimal to start with. You'll find you already have lots f things at home you can use when starting out rather than shelling out straight away.
you could maybe borrow things from your friends to start with.
Also you could just get teh tent now and budget (if possibe) for the rest in the months leading up to your first camp and then follow on camps when you have more of an idea of exactly what you do and don't need

Hi, we were originally looking at around £150.00, but obviously if we could spend less great! We have had long talk with gelert owners and they are an older couple who have used it only once before health problems forced them to pack in. we have decided to go for that one as it's only £75.00!! and has lots of very high reviews. Thanks for advice about cold will make sure we're well wrapped up, especially our girl! Thankyou all so much
