we have a coleman sahara 8, last year we (2 adults n 4 kids) went camping for the first time, thoroughly enjoyed it,only it rained alot and think we would benefit from a porch, we have seen a gelert horizon porch and wondered if any one could give advice as to whether this would work with our tent and/or give any tips or solutions.

we also camped on stoney ground this pierced the sig in many places causing puddles, any solutions would be gratefully received. ta

We're investigating porch solutions and it seems to be a hot topic this camping season - see discussions here, here, here and here, also reviews of various canopies.

Sounds like your tent could do with a footprint, or tarpaulin cut to size - I've seen reinforced groundsheets in Go Outdoors that you can cut to size as necessary, might be what you need (not on their website though) you can use the google shopping search though (see if the link works here - several pages worth!)

I'd recommend patching your sewn-in groundsheet and getting a footprint groundsheet to go underneath for next time. They protect the SIG from stones etc also save you having to clean the SIG of the tent when you pack away or getting the flysheet dirty from the SIG. Just bundle the footprint into a bin bag and hose off when you get home.

Sorry to hear about the damage to the tent; the lesson to be learnt is obviously get a footprint, and next time check the area for stones – I would definitely question a campsite warden trying to get me to pitch on stony ground that would damage my groundsheet.

As for repairing you will need a tent repair kit (patches and glue) which can be bought from any camping kit supplier (your tent should have come with one – although probably very basic).

As a cheapo option (provided you’ve got a footprint) you can use Duck tape, or for a more permanent fix Tenacious tape, which a lot of people here recommend.

Welcome to UKCampsite btw.

Might not be right for a SIG, although I think it's made of the same stuff, but we repaired our footprint (was eaten by mice on a site, long story) with Gorilla Tape. Its like duct tape but stronger and waterproof. Had no leaks or anything.

ta again for replies, trip a success, we put a couple of tarpaulins down n had good weather so no leaks,

as for the porch, we bought the gelert horizon porch, it done the job but didnt fit too well, our tent isnt rounded like the tent its made for so the sides bellowed a little allowing nosey ponies a peek inside but it served its purpose.
