Does anyone have any cheaper alternatives to the Vango carpet which seems to retail at about £50.00. Carpet sizes rarely seem to be cited on the product detail! Looking at my tent details I will need one about 285cm x 240cm. Am trying to do this on the cheap as I spent a lot on our main tent last year but now have the Vango Icarus 500 for shorter trips.
I guess I could always just use picnic rugs as I have in the past.

I've ordered the icarus and am really looking forward to getting it up, although I've already seen it as my sister purchased one last summer and that's my primary reason for getting it.
I'm going for the picnic rug option (with the addition of a rug gripper mat underneath) as I think that taking individual mats outside for a good shake would be easier than emptying out the furniture etc to take a big carpet out.
I think the carpet for the icarus is quite expensive, although I don''t know how much they should be as I've never purchased one before.
we are looking at the same thing we have just got the icarus 500 for weekend use too i think this is going to be a very popular tent on sites all around Britain.

Have you used the Icarus yet? we were looking at them today for weekend use? what's the pitching time like?
Haven't pitched it myself but have seen it at a tent display. I think pitching time is quoted at about 15 minutes! Certainly looking at it it looks like a doddle compared to our past tents. Our 'big' tent is the Outwell Idaho XL and although it's a fab tent and pitching is straightforward, all those steel poles are quite heavy! The Icarus will be our weekend tent for when we just want a quick get away. The kids are already planning to camp in the garden at Easter!! Brrr!
We have an Icarus 400 and putting it up is a piece of P*ss! Its just 3 canes! Sure the 500 is the same. My 10 yr old and I put it up in much less than 15 mins, probably about 15 mins if you include all the pegging and guying. We love it, and it has survived very heavy rain and strong winds.
we not pitched ours yet but we watched a young lad do it at camperlands and he did it by himself in about 10 mins, It pitches as one with bedrooms already inside so that saves you a job.

Just got back from Silverdale with my new Icarus 500. Put it up with the the mrs in the wind and took less than 20 mins. Its dead dead simple. 3 poles and bosh you are done. We have the canopy extension as well but that only took a few mins. Its a smashing tent!

Picnic rugs are a perfectly good alternative to a carpet. Cheap and easily washable, easy to take out and shake if they get bits on. I would think 2/3 rugs would cover all of the 'useable' floor area. The bits around the edge are usually covered with equipment (clutter).
I brought 3 picnic rugs and they only just cover an area big enough for the areobed (king size) think you would need about 8 of these to cover the living area
