We have spent the day looking at weekend tents and have narrowed it down to the Sunncamp Evoloution 600 or the Kuro 500.

We are a family of 6, but we will sleep in the living area if we need to as it's only for short breaks here and there.

Both appear easy to pitch with just 3 poles and SIG - just wondered if anyone could share their experiences?

In the shop the man commented many people are not happy with the evoloution and often got returned??and that the Kuro is a better tent??

Is there much between 2000 & 3000 HH really apart from the extra M of rain??!!

I thought that the Evolution was quite popular. If it were me I would look at Vango's Icarus 500 or 600 rather than the Kuros - same style but has flymesh on the side door and more importantly the TBSII internal strapping system, which provides more strength to the tent in very windy weather. The 500 is incredibly popular for the second year running- the 2010 version is already sold out at some retailers... There is the option too of splitting the bedroom ---

But of course its each to their own. I am sure that you'll hear from some owners...

I am also under the impression that the Evolution is popular as reviews on this site suggest.

If you really are deciding between just those two tents then it must be the Evolution.

It certainly is a head-turner with its unique design among family tents.  It must be very stable in windy conditions, more so than a tunnel tent, due to its tapered disign and multiple nodes.  And compared to the Kuro it has a higher Hydrostatic Head (in theory it's more waterproof).

However, the very same aspects of the design that allow it to cope with windy conditions give the tent two fundamental weaknesses: the walls at the "corners" of the tent taper significantly resulting in loss of internal height/standing room; also both doors are at an angle so that getting in and out of the tent while it is raining without getting the inside wet is difficult.  Sunnflair seemed to belatedly acknowledge this when they introduced a range of canopies.  The second weakness is by no means peculiar to the Evolution (I discovered that I had to get the extension to go with my Minnesota) but the loss of head room is something you should consider carefully.  Have you tried getting all of you in the Evolution at the same time?  Standing?

If you like the Evolution then perhaps you should consider the 600 DL which has a significantly larger living area.

If you prefer the Kuro then I am with Speedcamp: consider the Vango Icarus for which, this year, a dedicated canopy can also be bought.  Alternatively you can consider the Outwell Virginia 5 which is a speacial for Yeomans; though it has no dedicated porch/extension that side eyebrow canopy is of some use in the rain.  Another advantage of the Virginia is that it has many more windows than either the Kuro or Icarus - if you are stuck inside on a rainy day I faind that this is of significant benefit.

Let us know what you decide.

Hi nitnat, what did you decide on eventually?  I was in a Kuro500 2 weekends age at Rosedale Abbey, was very wind and raining on the saturday.  The Kuro 500 stood upto the task very well was impressed must say.  Anyone else in here been in a Kuro 500?

It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.

We got the Evolution 600 in the end. We have used it twice now and have to say we are very pleased with it. It's our weekend tent, so only used theoretically in fair weather as we watch the forecast and go if we're free so not had any experience in the rain/wind yet!
