I have just bought the above tent and whilst happy with it, I would like to add a proper front awning rather than the open side extension. At present Outwell don't seem to provide an awning option, but looking at their range of tents, I was wondering whether the Florida 5 awning would fit. They are both 350 cms wide??.
Does anyone know for sure whether this will work as I don't want to fork out for an awning that won't fit or alternatively, will it be likely tht Outwell will bring out an Oakland speific front awning in the near future - anyone to contact at Outwell
Thank You
Steve

Firstly, I doubt that they will bring out a front awning or extension. They had the option with the Carolina M (last year's "3") but produced a side one instead. I suspect what they like to call their "Extended Frame System" (they do like their ostentatious titles) would make it difficult to have one.
Secondly, from what I can see, even if you were to fit the Florida 5's awning to the Oakland, you would gain very little. The Florida awning is designed to go onto a tent that already has a small canopy with a vertical front wall. Because the front wall of your Oakland is on a pronounced slant it may, at best, only give you a small amount of useable space.
Thank you for your response. What you say makes sense but do you think its worth contacting Outwell (email details???) To see if they will be producing an awning specifically for this tent.
Regarding the Florida 5 idea we are only looking for a few more feet. Do you think it will fit. My worry is size seems ok?? But Oakland has a combination of steel and fibreglass poles. The florida poles are all steel.
I want to be sure about this before I realise I have made an expensive mistake
Thanks
Steve
Hi The retailers will be visiting Outwell to view next years ranges in July so more info will be available then.. Some info is leaking out but as yet nothing that I have heard re the Oakland XL. I for one would like to see a front awning as this is the tent we use for quick weekends away. Gary cross

I believe it was to be manufactured this summer in time for next season. A real shame and the tent would be perfect with the awning and would give the option of 4-5 days stints as well as weekends. I think if we were going to see it this year we would have seen it posted on Outwells website. After the summer overs I can't see their being much buying activity until next spring

Hi Steve
I have just spoken to my man at Outwell and yes a full awning as you said is to be produced for next summer...
I love the Oakland and its our tent for weekends but with a full awning like the one for the Montana 6 it will be great for full holidays..

Great news, fingers crossed. I love our tent but we just need alittle more space for eating and cooking especially with the unpredctable British weather. Watch this space i guess. So pleased i've found this forum!
Very interested in what I have just read. I too think a side awning with a zip in door would be more functional than the one they have.... awaiting a result.
If anyone knows of a side awning with zip in door that would fit, I would be very interested in hearing about it.
