Hi All,

Just had our first attempt at our new bear lake 4 tent ready for St Ives in 6 weeks, we successfully erected the tent and are really impressed, the question we have is that when packing away should we leave the ground sheet in with the tent or would we be better off removing it?.

We checked the Outwell website and instructions etc but there doesn’t seem to be any guidance.

Thanks for your time

Lee

Hi Woofers & thanks for your reply,

The weight i have to say was one of the major factors behind our removal, trying to carry the tent upstairs turned into a 2 man job and 1 bad back afterwards, additionally we asked ourselves if the GS  would have any detremental effect on the canvas or indeed the windows, even when packed in dry conditions.

Thanks again

We have always removed ours because of the damp and grubby issue even though we use a footprint. The weight and the ability to fold the canvas neater without the ZIG is also a factor and when striking camp we tend to leave the canvas for a while to air with the ZIG removed as its normally in the morning after the tent has been zipped up all night that we pack away.

Hi, Thanks for the replies

I think leaving the GS out is the way to go,

Do you have any pointers for pitching, we attempted it over the weekend and seemed to be ok but any pointers would be greatly accepted,

We're also looking for a side extension & a carpet if you know of any bargains

Thanks again,

Lee

we put ours up to trial run it and took it down with the GS still on it. We decided when we go away and pack up we will take the GS off and fold it up as its too heavy.   Most places are doing side extension for around £200 when we were looking for one and we have got a Hi gear Kalahari 10 carpet for ours.

Depending on how wet the situation is.

When putting away wet gear, take the groundsheet out simply because its easier to pack and then dry the fly - canopy - groundsheet seperately.

I packed mine away this morning nice and dry and thus left the inner and the sig attached. Rolled in to the middle and wiped off then in half and rolled - standard way really. Its fits in the bag no problem at all and I can carry it on my own without an issue.

Its whatever suits the occassion Lee.

Cheers

Lee

By the way,

We tried our side extension on the front this morning - AND IT WORKS. Not perfect but it does fit fine.

It was the first time we used the extension this weekend and its worth the costly indulgence. That said we only paid 120 for ours new.

i must be doing something wrong, took my BL6 down for the first time today and left gs on, rolled it up and there was no way it would go back in the bag, ended up putting it in the boot then unzipping it at home in the garden
