I have just come back from a weekend in my Carolina 3...the first time I have been able to use it in nice weather and open up the curtains and doors...and it was perfect.
It was a little blustery at times and I was concerned whether or not the end fibreglass pole would withstand the pressure. It was certainly 'bowing' well. I released the strap tension a little bit which seemed to help. However, I am sure if I were in a tunnel tent with all fibreglass poles the lot would have been swaying pretty badly. With the steel poles the carolina seemed pretty sturdy...which is one reason I bought it.
I have had problems with the fly net catching on the velcro on the side door flap. Basically if you don't roll up the door or the net and leave them both flapping in the wind they stick to each other causing snags in the net which will no don't end up as a hole eventually.
Another problem I have had is that I can never seem to get the flysheet central on the poles. If you try to get it central it can be quite difficult getting the pins into the bottom of the poles when erecting even with the straps loosened off. I have given up trying now and let the flysheet sit where it wants...it doesn't seem to cause too much problem.
One last problem is that there doesn't seem to be enough pegging points along the bottom of the flysheet so wind blows underneath the SIG which on this occasion toppled over a small table inside the tent...fortunately nothing on it! I am thinking of getting some 'clingons' and making more pegging points. I also have extra guy lines, just in case, as I am still not confident the tent will perform well in really windy conditions.
