Just spent 2 nights in this tent and found it to be a great weekender

We used our Montana groundsheet and carpet...not a perfect fit but folded the groundsheet under a little and let the carpet run under the bedroom pods for extra warmth...saves pennies on buying ANOTHER set

We were fortunate to have mild weather and was on quite a sheltered site so it wasn't particularly tested with wind and rain, so i'm not sure how well it would cope compared to our steel poles on the Monty.

Looks good.

Considered that, some friends ahve recently bought one, but my dislike of flexible fibreglass poles in tall tenst esp led us to recently purchase 2nd hand Minnesota 4 (same as yours basically with steel poles)

We can also jsut about use our Kyham sun Canopy of the front to give some shelter for cooking in inclement weather, will also soone have a tarp on it's way from Tent-Tents :-0

Waiting for Mayday bank holiday weekend :-)

Hi Scrumble,

As the friends who bought the Virginia, we'll have to compare!  We haven't even had a chance to pitch ours yet - curse the lack of a garden!  Must do so before we first use it - which is probably the weekend after the May Bank holiday.

Unfortunately, you guys won't get to see it on the Bank Holiday weekend - given that we are going for two extra nights, I think we are going to take the Vermont.

PS  Worked out who you are from your message - didn't know you were on here!

thanks for the photos ..... we too have got the Virgina 5 and a Monty lol, not taken the Virginia out yet, just a test pitch in the garden and it was a total dream to put up, we don't find the monty a problem to put up and i must admit when its up its up!!!! especially with the deltas, but we couldn't help but admit it will be nice to go to a site for a weekend and be able to have the Virgina up in 10 mins. will still feel guilty about not taking the Monty though

The only dissapointment i had with the Virginia was that the front door panel is solid and does not have a window option....we were too impatient to wait to see one up before we bought!! lol..... but considering the price it is a small compromise! :) we are going to use the carpet we bought for the Iowa last year ( we quickly returned the tent as it was awful but kept the carpet) and it fits quite well, it stops being a 'cheaper' tent when you have to start buying the carpet as well, but really would not camp without one now.

thanks again for the photos its good to see one 'in action' .

Same here...i was disappointed by the door and hadn't noticed on the website it was solid...husband say's i'm just being picky though  and we didnt really use the front door as it was cool but i suppose when it's warm we'd have it rolled up all day anyway. I have to keep reminding myself it's not a Monty (or has a monty price tag) lol. We also love our Montana but don't like the way we end up taking two vehicles for all things it has room to hold and then spending far too long putting it all up and the worse bit...packing it all away to come home again. I just find it a too daunting thought to do that for a couple of nights, hence the smaller tent.

Was nice to just load up the one car, with room to spare and kids not loaded with 'stuff' and be set up so quick.....only for a couple of days mind, still love my Monty

ha ha ha it must be a female thing because my husband said exactly the same lol........ i think my first reaction was that it feels like i have a brick wall blocking my view!!!!................. i am just toooo nosey

it is just such a sensible option for a couple of nights camping, we have said though that for anything over two nights its the Monty

hope you have a good season of lots of camping

Great pics.  We too have ordered a Virginia and are expecting it any day now.  I cant wait to get it up in the garden for a trial run.  Thanks for pointing out the fact the door at the front is solid.  Never mind hopefully it can be rolled up most of the time while the sun is shining..

The front door is solid but it does have additional windows down the side that the Minnesota 4 doesn't have, isn't this right?

Nice pics by the way. It looks like a great tent.

Hi Scrumble,

<Waves> Hi :-) I come and go.

Ah yes of course, we are just camping for 3 nights, which is where the crossover point is for us I think - it it was more we'd be more likley to take the Ridgipod. But we will wait until nearewr the time and decide depending on what the weather is going to be like.

Though might take it anyway to see how we cope with inclement weather - canopy + tarp plus friends with capacious tents should be ok. Of course as we now have the trailer we can probably take both and decide when we get there if we want

PS After much umming and ahhing (as you do) got a grey polycotton Obelink tarp seeing as everyone on here who has one seems to like it so much. Hoping the polycotton will be a bit less noisy in the wind than a synthetic one would be.

Not tried it up yet, only came yesterday. Delivery (about another £10) from NL was quick. Ordered Fri, dispatched Mon, Delivered Wed.

Runs out into the garden to check....

Yep, there are extra windows between the side door/window and the front windows where the Minnie has plain tent panels.

Hi All, just picked up a new Virginia for shorter camps when we don't need the space of our Monty.

Just a query, we've not had a chance to pitch in the garden yet, but I've noticed that all three fibreglass poles are the same length. The instructions seem to refer to colour coding and different lengths, any comments?

and yes sheve, the instructions do clearly state that the poles are coloured coded, I check three times before realising (After laying them out) that they aren't!
