I am looking at these 2 tents to use as a weekend/week tent for the 2 of us with a baby on the way next year.

Was wondering what the differences are between the 2 apart from shape and one having TBS and the other not and one having a 2000hh and the other 3000hh.

Many thanks in advance just wondering why one would go for one over the other

We have the icarus and find it great, we had our 4 year old with us at easter and plenty of room, tho i would recomend getting the footprint and the canopy with it, you can see mine in my gallery and on the 500 review, its the one with the black suncanopy.

Hello and welcome to the forum. First post!!

First of all, although bot ostensibly five-berth tents, the Icarua is about 20cm wider in the sleeping area - the Orchy is actually narrower than my four-berth Outwell Minnesota!!

The design of the Orchy has changed slightly this year and it is a much more stable tent as a result. Whichever of the two you go for you should still consider a canopy or extension as well as the footprint groundsheet and some form of carpet/rug for the living area. If after all that you can still afford the Orchy then I do believe that's the better tent - though the Icarus is darn good value.

Many thanks for the reply, in your opinion the Orchy is better but only this year onwards due to the new shap and the added HH.  I shall look at both again and weigh up the added cost implication.

Although I was by no means alone in my opinion about the Orchy it was not a universally-held opinion (there are MANY loyal Orchy owners on this forum), but I felt that the living area was not as stable as it might have been. But the brow pole over the front door now continues to the ground and it has really made the whole thing more stable (I tried rocking one on display at Camperlands that was not even pegged out and the difference was striking).

It's very hard to get a balanced view as Icarus owners (of which I am one) will rave about it and the Orchy owners will do likewise. If you can get to a tent display you'd be as well to have a good look around them both.

The TBS system gives extra stability in the tent. So that may be the Icarus. dcope set up looks good espeacially with the canopy for extra space.  2000HH is fine 3000 is an added bonus. is that on the other tent, not that essential. imo.  My tent is 2000HH, no problems with it leaking, the tent is in it's 4th season and camped end of March beginning of April.
