We have been looking recently at the Kampa tents and have been quite impressed with what you get for your money. We are currently trying to decide between a Filey 6 or a Croyde 6.

We have 5 & 3 year old boys and a baby due any day(!) so ideally we would like one large bedroom that can accommodate the 5 of us (1 double airbed and 3 singles/cot), which the Croyde 6 would give us. However I really like the quality of the Filey 6, but the bedroom layout for the 2010 model is a 4+2. On the diagram it looks like it is a zip between the two bedrooms but in fact when we looked in one today they are 2 separate pods. The 4 man pod also has a zip in the middle to create 2 separate rooms, so in theory it can be 3 bedroomed (or 4 if you buy the additional 2 berth inner tent). So there is no scope on the 2010 model for us to all sleep together. My two sons would have to sleep together in the smaller bedroom.

I've looked at the 2009 Filey model (which still seem to be available) and they have a 3+3 bedroom layout with a zip between the two rooms, which would be better. However the zip seems to encroach into the bedroom a bit (unlike on the Croyde which is just a flap between the bedrooms), so I'm wondering if we would be able to fit everything in this bedroom space even unzipped? Also the 2009 models don't have the Sleeptite system, the possibility of an extra two berth inner tent and I can't tell if they have the canopy pole set for the side door (perhaps someone could enlighten me?).

The Croyde fits our requirements in terms of bedroom layout but when we went in it today (quite sunny) it was extremely hot inside. Didn't look as much scope to ventilate the tent with none of the windows opening, just the side doors and the front doesn't roll back like on the Filey. The general quality didn't seem quite as good, however at £299 it's pretty good value for money!

Anyway just wondered if anyone whose got one of these tents would be kind enough to give me some advice? BTW the Croyde is apparently the newer version of the Lulworth 6.

Thanks!

Claire.

Have you considered getting a Holkham? It is the polycotton version of the Filey and has the 3+3 bedroom layout with a zip in between.

I went to view the Holkham and the Croyde last Friday at Cool Camping and was so impressed with how cool the Holkham felt in the sun. It was in the morning when it was sunny but cool outside! It is important to us, with a newborn, that the tent is cool when it is sunny and also keeps in the heat when it is colder! We ended up buying the Holkham, which is more expensive but we figure that we will have many years of happy camping with our 4 children.

I like the side storage in the Filey/Holkham - ideal for clothes or a loo!

Also, the polycotton fabric felt stronger to us, and we wanted something which would last years and years. It would be great for holiday on the continent.

Haven't seen a Holkham but did see the Polzeath 8 which I think is the bigger version of a Polycotton. Yes, I have to admit a Polycotton would be nice but the Holkham is another £220 over the Filey 6 and I'm still not sure if a 3+3 would work with the jutting out zip. Out of interest how are you fitting 4 children in it??

We will just use the bedroom area to sleep and all our stuff will be in the main area/side area. The three girls will sleep in one side (unzipped) and we will co-sleep in the other side with the baby boy, or husband will share with the younger girls (5 and 2) and I will share with baby and eldest daughter - 7.

We tried a Studland, last year, but it was too big for us and we prefer the cosyiness of the Holkham/Filey. Also we wanted us all to sleep in one space, rather than separate pods.

I think I'm going to get a 2009 Filey 6 and have the two bedrooms unzipped like you so that we can all sleep together. Decision made - thanks!

Good choice! The extra quality of the fly and other materials make the Filey 6 an investment. It has the potential to outlast other tents by years given the 100D flysheet.

We are very pleased with our new little weekender, the Kampa Bude 4 - we keep finding those little extra thoughtful details and the quality of the materials is excellent!

Happy camping!

Helen
