Hello all,

We have now owned are Diablo 600 for almost 2 years and have had great use out of it.

Last summer we replaced some tired looking pole sections and the elastic running through them.

All of the guys are in fine condition except they are hard to see in the dark. Is it possible to dye them with glow in the dark dye?

Also, do we need to treat the tent material at all. It has always kept us dry but I am aware that we have never treated it or re coated it. If this is advisable, what is the best product to use?

The only flaw with our tent is one of the bedroom zips is missing a tooth so one zip doesn't run all of the way around. Luckily their are two zips, one either side of the missing tooth so they can meet either side of it. Any quirky tips to rectify this zip issue?

Overall we are very pleased with the tent, we think the XP models with the extra pole over the bedrooms would be beneficial so are keeping an eye out for a good condition used example.

Many thanks.

You can purchase new guy lines like these......

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/outwell-luminous-style-4m-x-3m-camping-guy-line-p107633

Your tent material shouldn't let water through, but will lose its repellency over time. I used nix-wax to re-proof my small Coleman Phad tent. The best thing to do is visit your local camping store and seek proper advise before carrying out any maintenance on your tent.

Not sure what you would do with the zip. If it isn't a major problem, I would perhaps live with it rather than risk making it worse.

Thanks

Andy

Hi Tesla. Apart from your zip problem, I would have thought your tent should be fine. Could it be that you have been finding the zips are hard to fasten? We had that with our Diablo 900. Every zip seemed to be a real battle. However, we went for the XP version last year and it really is a HUGE improvement. There seemed to be so much more room in the bedrooms. And we had no trouble with the zips. Sadly, Vango has decided to phase out the design so we are hoping ours will last a really long time. We love it.

Pete

Thanks for the replies. Our tent doesn't leak at all- just curious as to if maintenance is required. We have lived with the zip since owning the tent so will continue to do that.

I have been keeping an eye out for an XP model as we have always thought the extra bedroom poles would make a fair difference.

Still got fond memories of our Diablo days they are a great tent and feel so different to anything else inside, im sure its because they are double skinned and the shape feels so much more spacious than a tunnel. Those who have said about the XP are right the extra pole does make a world of difference though over the standard model.

We found that playing with the position of the guy lines made a big difference to how the tent stood and put far less stress on the internal zips if the guy's, for example the ones either side of the bedroom pods, where not pegged out directly in line with the face of the pod.

I wish we had kept our 600XP now just to use now and then

Oh and if anyone is looking for some guy lines then these are maybe worth looking at:

The Diablo is one of the great classic tents. When I first joined UKCS almost everyone either had one or wanted one.

You don't need to reproof unless the flysheet is starting to delaminate and when that happens it's really time to start thinking about a new tent. If you want to change the guylines for something a bit snazzier it's an easy job. Zip? Treat it gently. If you think it needs a little assistance use a tiny squoosh of Fabsil on it. Apart from that, it should be fine.
