What you're talking about is a vis a vis tent, a central dome with a double bedroom either side. I have one called a Royal Tarn 4 which holds a double airbed each side (possibly you don't need a 6 man if a 4 man would do and be a bit lighter to carry). That model is no longer available sadly but do a search using the key words 'vis a vis'

The trouble with three rooms along the back is that they're often only separated by a curtain which is hung from two points and open along all the edges - not good for privacy even if there is a storage room in between. However, the caplan is excellent value and your idea of having your mate in a separate tent is definatly workable.

If you're still thinking along the lines of a vis a vis here's a coleman one for £119 that's very similar to mine, the bedrooms are 140cm and most double airbeds are just a few cm short of that so they would definately fit in. It has a riser groundsheet in it too, keep your stuff dry should it rain.
