Can anyone help me with a carpet and footprint that will be compatible with the Hi-Gear Caplan 5?
Bought the tent today as it was on such a good deal with Go Outdoors but the staff didn't seem confident in the information they were giving - one of them thought that the Outwell Navada M carpet/footprint would be ok but didn't fill me with confidence.
Thanks
Carol
P.S sorry if some of my forum questions print 3 times - it always seems to happen when I am at work - perhaps that is telling me something:)

The nevada m will be too big .
First of all, you do not have to buy a footprint for the tent. you could buy a cheap blue tarpaulin from B&q and pitch the tent on this . mark the outline all around with a felt pen , then cut it out, using an ordinary scissors. make it about 2 inches smaller all around so no water can get trapped between the tent and tarp. .
footprints are just the same stuff as the tarp. B&Q TARP
will have a search for a carpet .
Really appreciate your help - trying to save as much money as possible without going without the essentials/comfort.
I did think that the Navada M looked much bigger than my tent hence why I didn't purchase immediately - plus added quite a big expense to the tent purchase (which I would be happy to pay if was correct fitting).
Any further help would be much appreciated:)

If you decide you want to add a canopy to the front of the tent in the future this one would fit and is a very reasonable price.
I know youre trying to start off spending as little as possible , but they do seem to add a lot of extra space to the tent. somewhere to cook under, leave wet shoes , sit in the shade, and stops rain blowing in everytime the door is opened.
Debbie - thank you sounds perfect. I have already wondered if the extra space would be beneficial!
I know I am only starting out but I was really starting to wonder if I had made the wrong choice and should have purchased the Icarus 500 for another £50 but which has all the extras to add on plus some very good feedback!
But if these extras will fit mine - I'm sure that for the next year or so while we decide if camping is for us (which I so hope it will be - as reading the forums sounds so much fun!) then I don't feel so bad.
I think the tent looks almost the same as the vango icarus 400 from the photos , it has pretty good spec ,its from a well known brand , it looks fantastic value to me . Theres no feedback on this one yet because its a new release. hi gear tents are made by gelert aho have a good reputation .
hey if you decide that camping isnt for you after all , at least you had fun shopping for it all
and if not you can always sell it next year.
All the extras will make it more comfortable for you .
And the more comfortable you are the more chance of you loving it .

Debbie, my appologies from dragging up an old thread, but I am also interested in a canopy for my Caplan 5 - I found this thread from Google, but unfortunately the link to the article on eBay has since been removed, so I am unable to look at the details for an alternative.
Would you be able to advise on what I am looking for, I have never looked at canopies before, so not sure how they attached/requirements etc.
I know its a long shot, but thank you if you can help!
