we are planning a weeks camping holiday in angust but we are really struggling with what tent to get.

i like the look of tunnel tents lots of windows and stand up height but they all seem to be very long,we are going on flamingo land and i believe the pitches are too small for the very long tents,

can anyone advise what tents to look for, there is five of us and i would like sig a decent living area and probably upto 500cm long,i dont know if there is a restriction on width or not any help would be appreciated

denise

Firstly I would find out from the campsite how big your pitch will be and then either post back with a more specific size of tent ypu would like or read some of the reviews, I am sure some of the helpful chaps on here will help you make your mind up.

To be honest, I think bearing in mind there are 5 of you and you are going for a week it might not be easy to find a smallish tent to suit you. In general I'd add two person sizes to the amount you need, so for 5 people I'd be looking for a 7 or 8 berth and although I'm no expert at all, I'm struggling to imagine that size of tent being "small". I hope you can come up with something though!

Have a look at the Kamp Filey 6, although you need find out about pitch sizes.

If you are restricted for pitch size but still need a good sized tent (but can cope with less than a 500cm livingroom) Have a look at the Vango Icarus 600. I agree with JackieS ideally you'd be looking for at least a 7 man tent.

Do you mean the pitches are only 12ft wide ?

that doesnt sound right to me . a caravan and awning would be about 14- 15ft wide, and there would have to be a bit of space besides to sit outside?

they are quite unhelpful aren't they , do they mean a caravan body length of 21ft, or does that include the tow hitch ? which could be another 4ft or so?
21ft is about 6.4 metres.
try another post asking about pitch sizes at flamingoland.

previous posts, one of these mentions another campsite across the road , may be worth checking out if you cant get any sense out of them .

I wouldn't let one campsite deter you from buying the tent you want, you'll be using this thing hopefully for years and at many other places.

Have you tried looking at the site on google earth? You might be able to determine the rough scale of the pitches by comparing them to any cars that are on the plot too.

How mad is that? without giving an actual size they could therefore tell you your tent was too big on arrival in that case .

pick any large tunnel tent out the biggest you can find, make a note of width and length, phone them and say tent is this big , will it fit on the pitch and see if that works. ?better still, email the question as well and print it so you can argue if they then say its too big when you get there
