Evening folks,
Does anybody know if you can get any kind of awning / canopy that would fit onto the Vango Salonga 900. Saw this tent in our local go-outdoors, but would like somewhere to do the cooking in, that wasn't inside the main tent.
Thanks for any info

Hi, none of the Vango canopies will fit on the Salonga 900.

I'd suggest that for cooking space, you use the open ended, side porch canopy of the tent with the addition of a windbreak around it (remembering to leave an adequate escape route).

Alternatively have a look at the Family Shelter on the Vango website http://www.vango.co.uk/tent-additions/family-shelter.html

which should give adequate shelter for cooking, whilst still being well ventilated and open for safety.

Please remember to take care with cooking appliances and tents, whichever one you choose to purchase!

James

Following on from James' recommendation - I have looked at the tent and it would seem to me that given the sloped-in sides of the side porch and its dimensions, the Vango Adventure Tarp with the addition of longer guy ropes and a few full height king poles will do a good job, with the elasticated side fitting behind the roof pole of the tent. Extending out 2m and someway down the sides of the tent, with a windbreak for lower side protection, you'll have a flexible shelter for cooking. £21, 1.3kg, waterproof and fire retardant. The elasticated side from memory is about 295cm long.

I know Vango only promote it for their small tents, but IMHO they are missing a trick.

We combine it with the canopy/king poles of the tent we're using (3 hold the front of the tarp up) and have 2 sets of guyropes, long and short, with loops in the end of each and just add the ones we want trapping the fabric loops of the tarp and the tips of any king poles within the guy rope (which is fed back through its own loop and tightened). We use it as a shelter on the front of all our tents, including the Columbia 600, whose roof pole is still shorter than the elasticated side of the tarp! The smaller the tent the greater the side protection, but even top coverage with the big tents is useful.

It can also be used as a standalone shelter for sunbathing too if you have spare poles...
