Hi

We are new to this camping malarky but love it.  We started last year with a Vango Orchy 500 but now upgraded to an Outwell Montana 6 (2010) model.

However, we are a bit confused as to the best way to pitch it.  I have watched the guy from Yeomans on You Tube and we had a go this way but found that one side of the tent (porch side) did not lay flat on the ground.  The camping shop where we bought it from recommend another way and another camping shop that stock the same tent recommend the way its done on the Outwell site itself.  I have noticed that Outwell have changed the pitching video this year.

Was wondering whether anyone has tried this method yet or what method they find the best?

We are taking it camping for the first this coming weekend so any help would be much appreciated.

We usually do it how sxis mentioned pitching the rear poles first and pulling up the next set etc etc, we have had no problems doing it this way, the only thing would be that it's quite heavy pulling that first rear poles up.

After reading what Cross Camping mentioned, I think we will give that way a try next time, seems like it would put less strain on the tent when pitching.

Thanks for all your advice and we will definately try Cross Camping way tomorrow.

Just out of interest though, has anyone tried pitching the tent as advised on Outwells site (recently updated)?

I have pitched the Montana 6 tent possible 20 plus times and in a number of ways...The way I suggested above is by far the best way. We will be filming some other tents over the summer so keep an eye out on youtube. I really hope these videos will help.

Any chance of posting a video of pitching the Kampa Holkham you have up?  Love to see how to do my Filey properly

Just got back from our first camping trip with our new Monty 6.  We love it to bits and thanks to Gary at Cross Camping found pitching it really easy.

We had 2 days of continuous rain, wind and frost last night but the tent stayed sound, dry and secure. 

Couple of observations though that I was wondering if you guys have any thoughts on.

1. The front door lets a lot of draught in unless you have the fly sheet zipped up as well.  Has anyone tried putting some extra velcro (the type that glues on) at the bottom to help with this?

2. One side of the tent (the porch side) did not sit flush with the ground once the pins were pushed up into the poles.  We tried all sorts to get rid of the this but to no avail.  Not a huge problem, but I would have preferred to see it sit flush like the other side.

3.  The porch rail seems too long to me as the cups it sits in push up against the tent.  Is this right?

Other than these little things, we think it a great tent and I am so glad we spent the extra money and invested in the front awning, carpet and footprint.

We are taking it away for 2 weeks in July to the Isle of Wight and cant wait now.

     We have taken our montana 6 on many trips and me and fella and have tried various methods & found this way by far the best:-

1) Peg down back 2 corners of tent

2) Put rear roof pole through & attach leg poles then put ring & pins in place

3) Lift up back pole & raise it then peg out to keep upright

4) Put front roof poles/leg poles & ring & pins in place,raise & peg out

4) Put remaining middle roof poles & legs in place then pull the tent forwards to get it in right position/tension right

We use this method everytime & get tent up in 20mins.
