I am currently looking at a number of 6 man tents, and keep coming back to the Hartford L. Before I make the decision, can anyone advise if this is any good (I have read reviews here saying it's a good tent) and if there are any alternatives to consider?
I need a good amount of standing height, and preferably somewhere to cook when it's raining....the porch on the Hartford looked pretty good what with the optional extension.
Cheers!

How many people is it for?
When they say 6 man tent it's really only for 4 if you are on airbeds. It's also of a shape that is wide and can incure extra pitching fees - not that we were ever charged any - as many sites don't charge extra as do.
Have you looked at the Michigan L and extension from Outwell? Again a 6 man tent but more suited to 4. Very good tent (have a read of the reviews on the tent review section on here). Just 3 main steel poles to put up and then 2 duraflex poles to give the bedromms shape and 2 to crossover inside to give the dome effect in the central living space.
Consider the Kampa Daymer which is a 6 man tent but perfect for 4. We just used it for the first time - see review on tent reviews (sorry not clever enough to do link!).

I've just got our Camping magazine and it's got a Royal brochure in with it.
There's some OK looking and spec tents in that too - though I haven't seen any prices for them.
Tampa 6, Hampton 7, Havana 6, Cuban 6 ZG, Bordeaux 6 XL, Winnipeg 6, Toledo 8 SG
Got to be worth a look if the prices are good.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm now looking at the Montana 6 by Outwell, as I'm erring toward steel poles for general sturdiness. I've had steel poles before and can cope with the extra weight etc.
Will also check out the Michigan, thanks for the advice!

I was on the verge of buying a Hartford because of the huge living area. Then went to Camperland in Northenden where they had an xl on display. The bedroom pods really slope inwards and my wife says she'd be to claustrophobic in it at night and seeing how she's the boss decided to either get a Vango Tigris 800 or a Kyham Ontario.
