hi folks just wondering if any one has viewed or seen any off the coleman coastline deluxe models i was thinking of buying one but there is no were i can view one local to me.a few people have commented the quality may not be as good as coleman tents use to be,which put me off.pretty sure i am going to go for the vango icarus 600 as have seen in the flesh. This is my first tent so just want to be sure before choosing.any opinions welcome, as i will be making my decision to night.[then i can take my name off the tentless list]

having owned both Coleman and Vango nylon tents,my personal choice would always be Coleman.I would agree that having seen the coastline up close, the quality doesn't seem as good as the older models(darwin 5/7) but they are almost half the price and it still looks well made.
Saw some coastline 4 packages(tent, canopy, footprint and carpet) for around £190 -BARGAIN!!!!!!!
best to try and see both tents set up if possible and go from there
With a fibreglass tunnel, I'd always choose Vango for the TBS internal strapping - adds alot of stability in windy weather if clipped into place. I would also look closely at the quality of a Coleman as our small Coleman is not of the standard of the Vangos. Seeing one in the flesh would be a prerequisite.
Our Coleman lacks reinforcing at stress points, seams are single sewn in places and the zips etc are no where near the same quality as those on Vangos. It is ideal for the limited use we'll be giving it and the design is excellent, but I'd expect better quality for a tent that is expected to take more frequent use.
thanks helen,it was really the price that keeps drawing me back to the coleman, the proplem is there is no were near me in scotland i can view the coleman, yeomans and go outdoors are close to me but none off them stock the coastline[maybe that should tell me something].Think i will just decide on the vango as have seen it in the flesh and i think the icarus 600 is good value for the price. Also liked the look off the columbia u have helen, but being my first year camping think i will keep my budget low, thanks again david

Hi David
I think you're wise to be modest for your first tries at camping. The Icarus 600 should do you well and if you enjoy camping you could either get the canopy if you want more space for longer stays or you could invest in a bigger tent and keep the Icarus as a weekend tent. Your money wouldn't be wasted. If you find camping isn't for you - the Icarus is so popular, you shouldn't have a problem selling it on for a good price.
Anyway - I hope you have fun! (There will no doubt be a few stress points - but when you have that drink in your hand and relax...., even if its raining outside )

An Icarus 600 is a great tent, loads of features and more roomy than the coleman by quite a way.

I don't have one, but feedback on the forum seems to indicate that vango have now put a toggle attaching the raised front of the groundsheet to the inside of the flysheet, which is the same method they've use on our Columbia 600. It should hold the flysheet down and prevent this problem.
great news; thanks helen that was the only little thing that i was curious about, 100 certain i am going for the icarus.just off to source one, the cheapest one i have found so far online is £171.99.i have a yeomans store close to me they are selling it for £189.99,do u think they would price match? have no idea how camping stores operate any advise welcome david
Some stores will price match and one of them "Go Outdoors" will undercut a price match by a further 10% if they have it in stock - unfortunately they don't do the 600.
WOW great find, thanks so much helen i thought i had checked every were, what a price, with free next day delivery.will phone yeomans tommorow see if they will match it,if they cant i will order from springfield, will move fast dont want to risk missing out on that price.thanks helen you are a david
