Hi all

I have finally talked my OH into camping - YAY!

Seeing as I am the 'experienced' one (LOL), the tent choice is up to me.

I have always had Outwell in the past.

However, I am really keen on the Pop Up Quechua range as I am in favour of an easy life but something is holding me back......not too sure what it is.....maybe it's too easy!

Can anyone recommend a really quick alternative - we are 2 adults and 2 children (one big and 1 small). They won't entertain the idea of a seperate smaller tent so we need something with atleast 2 bedrooms. Living space is not overly important as we will be spending most of the time out and about.

I have a budget of £200 max and am thinking of maybe a tunnel tent because atleast the poles just go straight over - I used to struggle with the poles crossing over on my Outwell Hartford XL......

Any recommendations would be very welcome!

Many thanks

Mrs Px

What is putting you off the quechua?  I have 2 of the tents and the 4.2 base standards would suit you to a "T" I think - very easy to erect and fold away - I can do it single-handedly.  We don't use any of our other tents or our drive-away awning any more, we stick to the quechuas.

We have just bought a Quechua Base Seconds 4.2 and it is super easy to put up, I did it on my own in 5 mins first time, no help from my hubby, and took it down on my own too in about 5 mins.  We have not taken it away anywhere yet, just tried it in the garden but I am very impressed with it.  The living space is 5m2 so not huge but plenty of space for a table and chairs.  Do you have a Decathlon near you where you could go and have a look?

We have bought a Quechua Base Seconds 4.2 this year too. Our big tent just takes too long too put up for a weekend but OH was not keen on a pop up but I went ahead and ordered one anyway. After seeing it in the flesh he has pronounced me a genius for getting it!

We have bought the Base Seconds as well to go with it to give us more living space.

I can see our monster Khyam Ultimate Deluxe staying in the garage from now on!

got to say we used our base plus 2 secpop up a couple weekends ago and while in general it was brill, the one downside was the amount of zips.

To get out of the 2 sec pop up for wee in night, you have to undo two zips ( mesh plus outer) then open one zip to get into base. You then turn and do two pop up zips plus the base zip up. Then to get out of the base it's another zip. And of course same in reverse.

Hiya if you're still looking for an alternative to the pop up what about the Khyam Harewood vis a vis. The main poles stay permanently attached to the tent which means it's very quick to put the tent up. £289 is more expensive than you'd hoped, but I think it's worth, if you can, paying for the right tent for you.

Or alternatively there's the Vango Icarus 600 which is in your price range, or the Vango 600 DLX which is £20 over.

Or alternatively you could have a look at the Vango Icarus 600, very simple to put up only three poles and they're all the same size, so no guessing which pole goes where. It's within your budget.

£20 more than your budget would get you the same tent in a DLX version from Outdoor Megastore, a limited edition this year. £219

Thank you all for your responses.

I will go to Decathlon which is not too far from me and have a look.

I also like the look of a couple of suggestions from Frome

The Harewood sounds really interesting - does it store away easily with the poles still in place?

Thanks!

Here's a similar (but older) model on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqMz7_9Pckc

I don't think the packsize is any different from a similar sized tent of any other brand.
