Hello Mr P
This repair assumes that one of the star casting arms has broken.
I have used the unthreaded shank of an 18cm long M12 HEX bolt (£2.38 from B&Q, part ref 432) as the basis of this repair.
Cut out a 9cm section, smooth and round off the cut edges, and hammer a 10 degree bend at a point 3cm from each end. Place the rod in a vice with the bends vertically downwards and file the top curved section flat. Reverse the rod in the vice and file the bottom curve flat. Drill a 5mm hole vertically through the centre.
Cut off the star casting arm opposite the position of the broken one. On the underside, file down the raised lip in the location of the missing star arms to allow the modified bolt shank to fit snugly against the underside of the casting.
Drill a 5mm hole through the centre of the casting.
Fix the components together with a suitable bolt (8AF) and locking nut.
If you have any problems with making this repair I would be pleased to make
it for you. Takes about 30 minutes once you have the bolt.
I have prepared some photos to illustrate this repair but am not sure how to attach them. If you would like them I will contact the web-master for assistance.
Good luck.
