Has anyone found the Monty 6 (2010 model) porch pole too long? We used our tent for the first time last weekend and found that the cups the pole sits in touch the side of the tent and we were a bit concerned about it.
Has anyone found the same thing and should we be concerned. We are considering cutting a small piece of the pole off either end?

Hi Montana girl,
we have had the same problem with an Outwell Nevada L bought in 2009. Ended up having to return the first one to Yeomans and get a replacement because it broke the door zip first time out. Assumed it was an isolated problem but the replacement was nearly as bad and we have ended up using the alternative side door.
There appear to be a lot of messages on this forum about it past but have not seen any final solution suggested. I too have considered taking a small piece off the pole but worried this could make it worse. Outwell have never responded to my orignal complaint and I have just tried Yeomans again to see if any solution has been sorted out that could be used in older models . It looks like new 2010 outwells that suffered with this may now have been redesigned although sounds like yours is not one of them.
I would also be very grateful if anybody has an update on this and/or has found a solution.
cheers.

I've read a number of these queries for the 2010 Montana. It is a new design for the porch and it may be that the pole is too long. It's not unheard of for manufacturers to get it wrong - e.g. the Coleman Evolva. The other alternative is that the porch is not fully extended away from the tent. We have Vango's version and the porch pole actually fits into reinforced pockets on the flysheet. It adds the usual pressure on the zip that over door canopies always do (released using a hand to ease the pressure whilst you zip past the point), but doesn't push the flysheet inwards.
Given the cup arrangement, I would have thought that it would rub the flysheet at that point - whether it would damage it, I don't know. May be ring around shops with displays to ask whether the same happens on their version and what they think if you can't get a response from Outwell. A trick with emailing manufacturers is to say that you will be reporting back on this forum as a number of owners have encountered the same problem. They may take your email more seriously.

How can I tell whether I have the old style pole or not, what is the difference?
Thanks.
