Hello,
After much searching I was very close to buying a Vango Columbia (being identical to the Outwell Montana 6 but at half the price and getting excellent reviews).

However, the outwell vermont L was the tent the missus really wanted but I was put off by the size. After searching around it seems pitch sizes on every campsite I've tried are more than adequate to cater for this size tent.

So my only worry, hence the forum message, is I read here that the 2007 model had very bad leaking problems.

I can get a 2009 model from one shop for about £80 less than I can find it anywhere else (which are 2010 models).

Can somebody tell me the difference in these models (I'm assuming there are no leaking issues any more) as the Outwell site is pretty rubbish with no contact information?

Many thanks :)

btw, if anyone can point me in the direction of a carpet that will fit the Vermont as it seems quite extortionate for the 'official' carpet at £90 it would be appreciated.

Hi,

We've got an 2009 Outwell Vermont XL. Have had no problems with leaking.

Also have had no problems with tent size at the sites we have been at and the XL is wider than the Vermont L.

Did you go for it in the end?

I remember there was a problem with the earlier (than 2009) Vermont Ls - might have been a huge dodgy batch and they leaked lots.

However, our 2009 model has stood up to the best of British Bank holiday weather (high winds, rain) and has been dry and rock solid.

Cracking tent, withstood a serious hammering two years ago on shell island while others folded around us in the worst summer storm for years, we even made the news :)

Nice choice, now get it bought and enjoy.

We've a Vermont XL. Apart from pegging out the front, it's great! :)

BUT, it is tent no. 2 as tent no.1 leaked across several of the seams the 1st time we had rain. (2009 model too!)

Outwell seem to be a bit hit and miss in the QC department, but still make cracking tents! :)

My £.02
