Sorry yet another "what should I buy" post. I have a Sunncamp Vario 600 for my main tent but it is just to much faff to put up for weekends and too heavy to take to festivals. So I am looking for a weekend tent - big enough for me, the missus and two children but also light enough for me to lug to/from the parking areas at a festival. So probably no heavier than 10kg. Budget is no more than £250.
I have come very close to splashing out on a 2009 Vango Peace 500/800 in polycotton but I was slightly put off by the lack of rain protection around the door area, so I thought I would ask everyone here if they had any other ideas?
Thanks
Daz

We too were looking for a second 'easier to put up' tent. Our main tent is a Montana 6 and we did in fact opt for the Vango Peace 800 after much deliberation. The reduced price offered by the local tent shop helped the decision.
We used it last weekend for 1 night and it was perfect for us, 2 adults and 3 children. It did rain during the night which was no problem. I do wonder, like yourself, how we would cope with rain pouring directly onto the ground sheet.
However we decided it would be our 'fair weather' tent and are very happy with it.
What about using a Vango Adventure Tarp? - several others on this forum have bought them to put over the tip of the teppee and extend forward to shelter the doorway. The elasticated side held tight by the rear guyropes will hold over the tip of the tent and you can either use the pole it comes with or another with longer guyropes to extend the shelter out 2m.
2000HH and flame retardant.

hlk01, The outdoor revolution looks like a possibility its defintely the right weight and looks like an ok size especially as the youngest is still under a year old. At that price I don't mind shelling out for something larger in a couple of years time. Thanks for that. I've been looking at this for a couple of weeks and within 30 minutes you've found a contender - big props to you!
Hithere, Thanks for the view on the Peace 800. None of the reviews I have found mentioned any problems but did you find condensation a problem with so many of you in a single skin tent?
Speedcamp, That is a great idea! Goes to show that I should probably use the search function ... but thanks for doing it for me. Big props to you to!
Looks like the boss and I have a decision to make tonight then.
I don't know if anyone has put a picture on the website yet of them using it, but here is a thread I contributed to on the subject previously including a very cold picture of a tarp with a teppee. It isn't the Adventure Tarp in the picture and the Advenure Tarp will go over the top rather than hang from it as in the picture but it will give you the idea. I have seen several people comment that they now use the tarp with their teppees, so may be one of them will spot this thread and put a picture up for you.
We use the Adventure Tarp for all our tents, justing adding longer poles and extra longer guys for the taller tents. It is very flexible - hence why it works...
