Hi Everyone

We are off to Fforest Fields on Friday, - may see some of you there..

Today I ordered a Vango Extension Premium for our Orchy 500, to avoid tears on Friday would really appreciate some advice if we are better attaching it to the front or side door??

Many thanks in advance Jules xx

If it is anything like the one we have for the Tigris it will only go on the front.

Hi Jules13,

These canopies are designed to go on the front of the Orchy's but people have put them on the side but I would say from experience they are best fitted to the front door.

A couple of tips for the Orchy and canopy, the two guy lines that run from the ends of the pole over the front door, pegs these directly forward of the door at no more than 45 degrees as this raises the door pole and gives you a taught front panel which is more important when the canopy is fitted as the elasticated top panel will have an effect when in place.

The second tip relates to the two guy lines that run from the elasticated panel of the canopy when fitted to the Orchy. The left hand guy will inconveniently run across the side door as well as pull the canopy down on the tent. When we had our Orchy we got 2 C clips the same as the one's on the tent to clip the fly to the poles and then cut down these 2 guy lines and fitted a C clip to each line. Then when you pitch the canopy simply clip the C clips to the front dome pole on each side of the Orchy and adjust the guy line as normal, this will keep the side door free and also put less stress on the tent and canopy plus it fits better.

That's a really good idea! I've been trying to think up a way to do this myself but I'd not thought of the C~clips do you think they sell the clips in yeomans? Want to try this next time we pitch up..

It is a really bad idea to attach a canopy to a tent directly, if it's not designed to do so. Why? Well, if the wind picks up the canopy is very vunerable to uplift from the wind. It's really best to take it down at this point but of course you may not be around. In which case the canopy may start to thrash itself loose...and if it's attached to your tent, it will thrash your tent as well and very possibly damage it. Fit them as designed for maximum strength. The Orchy doesn't have that a great reputation in high winds anyway, so why make it worse?

Good point makes sense really.

I guess if we are at the tent we could always move the guy line as long as its not to windy and when we go out we can reattach it...
