Hi guy, was wondering if anyone has bought and used either the outwell carolina S or Oakland s/m model of tent as im thinking of upgrading a small adventure tent to one of these for a little more luxury when im away?

I would particularly like to know how easy they are to pitch and get set up as my adventure tent is very easy and straight forward.

Many thanks in advance!!

Hi Hughjazz, have you had a look at the Outwell Virginia 5?

We were going to buy a Carolina M as an alternative to our Monty 6 for shorter camps. After looking at the Virginia, we bought one instead last weekend.

They're only available at Yeomans at around £159, and they've got a good HH at 3000mm.

Regards

Sheve

Hi Hugh,

I'm quite new here too and am looking for a weekender tent. People have been great but I will give you my take on these tents, if it helps. We own an Oakland XL which we have used as a longer stay tent and it is brilliant. I looked at a Carolina S this evening in Go Outdoors, along with a Vango Icarus 500. Both of us agreed that for size, shape, build and value for money, the Vango wins, which is probably what we will go for. I know from reading other forums that the Oakland M is quite tricky to put up and can result in one of the flexi poles snapping and I have seen the Oakland S, which is not big enough for me to stand in - I am 6'3. Our other option is a Nevada S, but that doesn't have a custom made canopy as the vango does and it isn't as big.

Anyway, hope that helps

Ian

I just bought the carolina S and had a trial run last weekend , the tent was up, down and put away with an hour. Ime 5" 3 and find this very, quick and easy to put it.

Rockster,

We saw a Vango Icarus 500 up next to an Oakland M recently, and while I agree that the Vango is good value for money, the stark difference we noticed was the number of windows. The Outwell was full of large window panels to let plenty of light in whereas we thought that the Vango would be quite dark and miserable inside, especially if you're stuck inside it in wet weather. For us the Outwell tents win.

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.

Hi Astronaut,

I have looked at sooo many tents recently and have come to the conclusion that I am agoing to give our Oakland XL a go for a weekend to see how easy it is to get up, down, dried and packed away. I'm not sure I can justify the extra expense for another tent just yet and ours is such a lovely airy tent that we love it! I agree that Outwell tents are lighter, it's just a shame that the Oakland doesn't have a front canopy - we do have the side!

Thanks for your input though,

Ian
