I'm in two minds whether to get a Montana 6 or a Vermont L. I was drawn towards the Vermont but going camping last week I'm really unsure. All the five or six Vermonts that I saw on the campsite seemed saggy and wonky while the Montanas seemed much better pitched.
Does anyone have experience of the Vermont or the Montana that can help me make up my mind? Any thoughts would be very appreciated!

Have pitched both and they are both really straightforward, the Vermont just having one more pole to pitch it's really no worse than the Monty.
My husband and daughter (13) pitched the Vermont in the rain one evening when I was feeling ill, our neighbours on the campsite were so impressed that they wanted to go and buy a Vermont afterwards lol.
Don't let the pitching aspect put you off the Vermont, I think that it's a great tent (but so is the Montana
Me personally would pick the Vermont every time..Why?
First of all the Vermont fits a standard pitch where as the Montana is slightly too wide(the side porch makes it 30cm too wide for a standard C&C Club pitch which is 9m x 5m ex guys.
Second,The Vermont has a lovely big enclosed front porch which you can cook in,take off your wet clothes etc.
And thirdly,
It has a nice wardrobe/storage inner which would be very useful to keep clothes in etc.

I have very recently had the same dilemma as you. Wanted to upgrade from our broken Tigris 800 and narrowed the choice down to the Monty and the Vermont. I went for the Vermont in the end. I haven't pitched it yet (dh has banned going away this weekend cos he wants to watch the footie!)
Ultimately, it was the width size that put me off the Monty. We usually use C&CC sites and I didn't want any hassle about getting a pitch due to just 30cm, plus you can't book online with it and I like that! I also preferred the bedroom arrangement in the Vermont - next year all being well there will be 4 of us, which we can accommodate in one pod in the Vermont. In the Monty we'd have had to have the bedroom divider down (it's 3+3, not 4+2), which would have meant having all our bags etc in with us rather than neatly tidied away in a separate pod (we would have used the porch for the toilet).
Another advantage of the Vermont over the Monty is that the entire front unzips and can be used as a canopy. I might be wrong, but I don't think the Monty does that. I like having the canopy to cook under when it's raining.
They're both great tents, you've made a great choice whichever one you go for!

I'd go for the Vermont too - it's much more versatile than the Monty (although I love the Monty too) We have a Vermont M just for the 2 of us and it's wonderful. We don't actually put the wardrobe up as we have plenty of room in the bedroom, but I would also consider it as a night-time place for the portable loo if you have one. The attached porch area is great for the table and cooker and it's great to put the whole front up as a canopy for rain or sunshine (usually rain though to be honest!!)
Can't get better for the money. If you wanted the same setup with the monty you'd have to buy the posh new extn too...more money. Nah, go for the Vermont
I spent ages walking between the Vermont, Montana and Bear Lake at a Yeommanns show... My eventually decided to splash out and go way over budget on the BL in the hope that is lasts twice as long as one of the other two (amongst other reasons)... But the Vermont came second... I was sure we'd buy the Monty, but having spent two hours pacing between the three, we decided the Vermont was better planned out, and had the additional porch to de-robe in bad weather... Somebody has already pointed out the width issue on CCC pitches... Likewise, I'm not the first to say whichever you go for, you won't be upset.. We camped with another family last week who had the Vermont... It is a great tent... Loads of space... Bit of a bugger to get back in the bag tho...
Never had a problem with the Monty on any C&CC site or anywhere else far that matter i'm not decrying the Vermont but the OH and myself and she is only 4ft 12in! put the Monty up and this includes the new porch in 25mins and we get it back in the bag with no probs

The Bear Lake (and even more so the Wolf Lake) seems to be an absolute beauty of a tent. I've seen a few last month and it is by far my favourite. Unfortunately it is just too far away from what I could afford at the moment. I'll probably start looking for a second hand one in a couple of years time though.
Hi again Tilly, just saw your other post about possibly adding extensions to the Monty.
We had the Monty plus awning which is great for flexibility - you can use it or leave it, or mix and match with the sun canopy depending on your requirements - but it takes up a fair bit more space than just the tent bag (even that of the Vermont) and definitely takes longer to pitch than doing it all in one on the Vermont.
I would take a look at the pack size of the awning/extensions that you are thinking of before going down that route, especially if space is tight. We have a trailer and still struggled with all the bits and pieces (tent, awning, carpet, footprint, sun canopy, etc).

We bought the Monty 6 this year. Thought about the Vermont L but for just two of us, I thought it would be just a tad too big.
Before buying the Monty I did loads of research and spoke to lots of owners last year on 3 difference campsites. One of which was the C&CC site at Sandringham on a bank holiday weekend. There must have been at least 5 Monty's on the site that weekend and nobody said that they had any problems when booking.
We opted to buy the front canopy with our Monty rather than the extension as this would have made the tent too long for some sites. We made a deal with our camping shop and got the tent, footprint, carpet and canopy for £599
They are both really good tents but if there are more than 2 of you, I would opt for the Vermont XL.
