Myself, husband and 3 children went camping again for the first time in years and loved it. Trouble was... it was a basic tent and with a terrible ground sheet that didnt fit the whole tent. I froze and we got infested with ants. We need a new tent!!!

Since coming home we have looked at every family tent on the market and i am completely tented out! I think we have wittled it down to 4 tents. Vango salonga 900,Vango monte verde 700,Kampa Filey 6 or Gelert beyond corvus.

If anyone has any info on the above or has any recomendations for a roomy tent for a family of 5 i would very much apprecite it.

D

I`ve hear lots of good things about the Kampa Filey, but it might be a bit cosy for 5 of you. We sold out 6 berth Orchy as it was getting snug for 4 of us.

The Monte Verde has the same layout as out Norfolk Lake, which is poly cotton, has a ZIG and is a high quality tent, and I picked up a second hand one for a lot less than £430.00 on here.

The Salonga has a built in porch which would be handy if the weather is bad.

You`ll get loads of suggestions on here.....dadsbeaniemad will be along in a minute to recommend a cabanon frame tent

What ages/sexes are your children ? This normally dictates how many bedrooms you need, also if you give a budget then it'll be easier for people to give recommendations. The Kampa tents do seem to be very well thought of and have a good spec but a 6 man tent would normally be a a bit of a squeeze for a family of 5. The tent manufactures size tents on the number of mummy sleeping bags they can cram in. That's not normally how people camp, preferring to use sleeping mats or airbeds.

Hi Christine, how did you know i am blonde???

Our Children are daughter aged 11 and 2 boys aged 7 and 5. We were considering buying the extra inner tent if we bought the Filey but not sure how much that would affect our living space. We also looked at the Kampa studland 8 but were concerned by its size and whether we would have to book 2 pitches when going away.

Bugdet is £300-£500.

Thanks for your help.

Is there anywhere local you can see these tents displayed so you can get a feel for the space? I'd forgot the Filey could take an extra inner which would help with bedrooms but like you say would also reduce the space. Best way would be to see one erected.

We have Kampa Holkham (same size and shape as Filey) and are fine for space. We didn't buy an extra inner but instead use a pop-up tent in the main area as a "bedroom" and move it onto one of the other beds during the day if necessary.

I'm glad we didn't go for anything bigger - thinking of pitch size and transport issues

TT.

If Lowestoft is your name and location try Norwich Camping and Leisure or Camperite Both have some nice tents on display and very good camping shops and are within driving distance of you (If you are at Lowestoft that is lol)

Thanks to everyone so far for your help.

My husband is now very interested in the Outwell Vermont xl. Has anyone had any issues with restrictions due to pitch sizes being too small for this tent.

There are some sites that happily accept large tents but units over 5m wide do tend to cause more problems on a lot of sites - they either won't accept you at all or will charge a premium or even for 2 pitches which then makes your camping trips very expensive.
You may find your choice of site is more limited - just something to be aware of before you part with your hard earned cash!

outwell are great and when you book if you tellthem the size of your tent you should be given an appropriate pitch.

Definatly go and look at the in the flesh so to speak, also have a study at the size of the bed pods. Can you get that air bed in there??.Just cos a tent states a ?? birth doesnt mean it will hold your stuff.
I have a montana 6 and four of us fit comfortably in it.Also head height you dont want to come home stooping with bad backs.
