One of my friends is looking to buy a weekend tent for her family and asked for some advice.
They are a family of 5, with 3 small children and is looking for a weekend tent for about or under £300.
Vis-a-vis tents are out as she understandably wants all the children near her in the night, as are pods, she wants a SIG, and a large livingarea for the kids to play in if the weather is horrible.
I've suggested the Easycamp boston 600, and the Kampa croyde and a few others, however I'm wondering if I have missed any obvious suggestions.
I did advise her not to look at 5 berth tents as we found they were quite small and didn't have much living space. Did I do the right thing? I know the general rule is to double the amount of people to find the correct berth, but is this true?
Thanks

Hi, what about the Khyam Kansas/ontario 8? Whilst the children are small they could all probably fit in the large pod with parents.Leaving out the 2 other pods would give a Huge living area. When the children are older, the other pods can be used and there will still be a large living area.

For a weekender/short stay tent the rule of thumb is no of people +2, for a long stay tent of a week or more it's no of people x2. Of course a lot depends on the layout of the tent, the ages and sex of the kids, who wants to share with who etc but I'd say an 8-berth would be about right for your pal.

Depend how much stuff they will be taking to fill the living area up .

If its a weekender only, with minimum kit , how about the vango icarus 600. One large bedroom with a divider should be okay for 2 adults and 3 littluns .
the living area is 240x 390, and has the option of adding a canopy or extension for longer stays or keeping all the kitchen gear in.
icarus 600

Or the vango columbia, huge living area

I thought about the Icarus but Hubby is over 6ft. We stood in the Icarus and my DH, who is about the same height' had to stoop. Should have added that as another criteria!

For a very high quality bargain (as it is last year's model and discontinued) they should have a look at the Vango Columbia 600 - it has 2/3 bedrooms, 5000HH, SIG, steel poles, Vango's TBSII internal strapping system that you clip in place for even more stability in windy weather, enclosed wet weather entrance.... etc. etc. It was in Vango's top end premium tent range last year. £275 (rrp £450 last year).
