We have decided to buy a tent, after borrowing one Spring Bank and falling in love with camping.

The one we borrowed was a ProAction 6 berth, from Argos I think, and it wasn't great to say the least. Luckily we had nice weather as I think it might of leaked or blown away!

We have been looking at Outwells. We love the Montana 6 but think we will struggle with boot space in our Mondeo hatchback.

We also loved the Oakland XL but we are slightly worried it won't be big enough. We have 2 children, 11 & 4. Could anybody whose got one please give me any advise? Also I like the idea of an extention, but this model only seems to do a side one, do anybody know if Outwell plan to make a front extention for 2011?

Hi there,

We have an Oakland XL for the two of us and whilst it is a spacious tent, I am not sure you would find it big enough for your family. The main bedroom is big enough for a double airbed, however, the second room would be ok for two smaller children but not, I fear an 11 yr old.

We have the side extension which is a useful addition and there is a thread here which suggests there may be a front extension for next season.

A lot of people seem happy with the Montana, but have you looked at the Minnesota 6, Nevada L or Carolina L, again tents which have proved popular. The Nevada also has a front extension.

Good luck, I am sure many helpful people will be happy to share their expertise. I've not been here long and people have been great!

Hi there,

We have the Montana 6 for a family of 4, two adults and 2 young children.  To be honest we did really consider the Nevada L and the Oakland XL but felt that the Oakland in particular would be a little too small for us.  Really happy with our choice but do understand your concerns.

Hi There

We have a HiGear Zenobia (6 person) and have just recently bought the Outwell XL. Must admit I have been really impressed. Much prefer the Outwell. Lots of windows giving good light in the tent. For our family (2A and 2 C 10 & 5) more than adequate lounge space, we too have the side extension. Extensions are great for storage and kitchen. Outwell Sales Manager for the UK has emailed to say there will be a front extension next year, so watch this space.

However the choice has to be right for you.

Rachel
