We have been looking at the Montana 6 but we are wondering if we will have enough space in the boot of a Mondeo hatchback, together with all the camping gear?

Could anyone who owns a Montana please let me know if you manage to fit everything in your car or do you end up having a roofbox/trailer?

Also how long does it take you to pitch? Probably ok for a week camping but is it too much effort for a couple of nights away?

For info we are a family of four with two children aged 11 and 4.

If a Montana and camping gear won't all fit in the boot we may have to go for something smaller like the Oakland XL but worry it might be a bit cramped. Any suggestions of alternatives welcome. Thanks.

We use a trailer - but that's mainly because I've got 1 for Guides.

Pitching time is about 1hour (poss less). That includes pegging out the footprint, erecting and fully pitching the tent (incl. pegging out the guy ropes) and setting up the cooking area / inflating beds etc.

We're a family of 3 (incl 16 year old son). Hope it fits in the Modeo as its a fab tent.

You know you've been to camp when....you put your shoes on to go to the toilet in the middle of the night

A couple next to us at Fishpool Farm this weekend put a monty up for 1 night!!! don't worry about it and just enjoy - it all fits in the car somehow. We have a Vermont M with carpet & footprint and we get everything in a Corsa!!! Tent takes up the boot on it's own but at least we have the back seat!!!

Monty, footprint, carpet, front extension, kitchen stand & 2ring cooker, folding table/benches, 2 adult chairs, 2 kids chairs, airbeds for 3, camp bed&SIM, 4 sleeping bags plus everything else you might need for a family of 4 for a week all in the back of Saab saloon and still have room for us!! We do have a roof bag but only tend to use it if we are going for longer or to the seaside and take bodyboards etc.
