Is there anyone who can give me some info about the Holkham 6
The front wall...are the windows just mesh with a zip up panel on the inside. Is there no pvc window covering the mesh?
Do you ever get any rain going against the front wall,or does the front canopy protect it.
Are all the poles shock corded,or spring linked?
We really like the idea of the side annexe as it offers all kinds of possibilities.
I see the poles are made of Dynalite..how do the compare with say the Outwell polycotton range alloy poles

we have the Holkham 6 and love it, done 3 trips in it so far one of which was in France.
You are right there is no PVC on the front, which we did think was a shame. On our first trip it was windy and wet, although the front did get a bit wet, no rain got in.
It was a bit cold on that trip so plan to add a bit of PVC to the side widows so we can choose to stop the cold air coming in the vent at the top. I also plan to seal the side door with some magnetic tape as wind/cold air comes in there too.
We did take the porch down for one day on the trip as it acts like a funnel in the wind. We have now got the vestibule for it and that is great. We can either open the front up and have the extra space or just open the vents up.
The vestibule is polyester only but it doesn't really show up when you compare it to the main tent. It is a shame that the door on the vestibule opens from the other side as it means you have to leave a clear channel from one corner to the other.
When in France we had to put the tent up in the pouring rain. but it was fine, no leaks and kept us nice a dry.
The main poles are corded, the 3 poles for the side porch have springs.
I cant say how they compare with outwell.
All in all, though this is our first "proper" tent, we know we made the correct purchase.
Thanks for your comments, not sure what you mean about putting pvc to the side windows to stop draughts,is there a vent under those little side canopies that can't been closed.
If a tent has a SIG or ZIG then the last thing you want is draughts coming in from somewhere else which you have no control over.
I do think that all the windows should have pvc to them and that any vents should be able to be closed, especially when its cold and windy.

On the two side windows, the one with the small canopy, there is a 6 inch gap at the top of the pvc with mesh. If you want to see out then you have to open the inside cover which reveals the top 6 inch mesh before the pvc window. So on a cold day you either put up with a draught or have the windows covered.
To me this is not a major problem and will be sorted buy a diy hack. We have also had a second Zip put into the grounds sheet to allow the gas pipe and sink waste to enter and exit. To me it seems very odd to put the electric entry between the two doors. ( This must have been a good idea of ours as it is now on the 2010 model.
The ground sheet is sewn in. So no problems there. The other draught comes from the side door as the two zips that hold it closed only go from top to bottom and not from side to side at the bottom.(think II and not U).
Even with these minor issue the tent is great, it's only me making small changes to make something great, better but that's just me. I tinker with most things. That's why we have running water.

Paul & Sandra.

We're very happy with ours, and haven't been tempted to do any DIY on it.
The vestibule cover is definitely worthwhile, but yes it might have been easier to use if it zipped from the opposite end, or better still from either.
I'd have liked another cable entry, on the opposite side, so that maybe the fridge and other paraphernalia didn't obstruct the main entrance, or for when the EHU supply is nearer to that side.
I can't answer your questions just now, but our new Holkham was delivered today and is going for its first trip at the weekend. Can't wait. Will let you know how it goes!
We have also purchased the Holkham 6 after seeing it at a tent shop in Newcastle & were very impressed but haven't had the chance to put it up yet.
Paul & Sandra, will take note of the points you have raised about drafts, although we will be taking a fan heater so doubt draughts will cause us too much probs & I like a bit of airflow.
Any advice on the best way to erect it? Also, can the sleeping pods be left in when packing away?
Hiya, we have the Filey 6 which is basically the exact same tent but not the polycotton version. I hadn't realised that the side windows had the vent until we were on site last week either but to be honest, it was nice to have that bit of ventilation in the tent. The way I'd get around it is to open up the window panel on the side door rather than the window if it's really cold. The side door can be either opened up onto the poles to create a canopy or zipped down, or else there's also a 'curtain' with a pvc window underneath it. I know what the pp meant about the zip on that door though, but that is the same on our Mojave 5 and to be truthful, I didn't really find it to be draughty from that door. It was disappointing that the two 'windows' on the front of the tent were just mesh, but again, with the vestibule on, you can unzip those and see out of the window on the vestibule instead. Hope that all makes sense lol! xx
Can you remember the name of the shop in Newcastle where you seen the Holkham 6 , Ive seen the Filey pitched but i need to see the polycotton before making up my mind

Yes it was at Camping on Tyne. They have quite a few Kampa's on show outside including the Filey 6 & the Polzeath 8. They didn't have the Holkham on show when we went but as they had both the above tents & the Holkham is exactly the same as the Filey 6 only polycotton, it allowed us to compare the two so that we had a good idea of what the Holkham quality would be like.
BTW the owner Craig at Camping on Tyne had the Holkham 6 for sale at £599.99. We bought the footprint & windbreak which he did for around £650 I think. We didn't purchase the carpet as we preferred the quality of the Outwell carpets over Kampa so we have purchased the Outwell Imagine carpet to go with ours.
Thanks MrsMacP
