While away we popped into Millets in Exeter, they had a Berghaus Lomond 3 man tent on display (would have done a linky thing, but couldn't get it to work!) and I have to say I was pretty impressed.

It was a good size, and got me thinking about buying something like this as a smaller, weekend getaway tent. The only thing they didn't have displayed was the price, and seeing as I wasn't in the market there and then, I didn't bother asking.

However, got home and looked it up online.....how much?! I was expecting around £150, but £250! Is it just me or is that overpriced? I know nothing of Berghaus tents, if they are good quality or not, and there are no reviews that I can see on here.

possibly overpriced as we went into a Blacks who were charging £350 for the Outwell Oakland XL that we have seen elsewhere for £279, bit of a difference for the same tent.  Have you searched the net to see if anywhere else is stocking it to compare prices?

I think it's a little too early to see what Berghaus marketing policy is going to be, but let's be honest you never see their backpack prices slashed that much, it's probably going to be if you want Beghaus you pay Berghaus prices, they will have a major hold over Milletts/Blacks who I believe are the same company!

Not the prettiest tent but it oozes quality. The roof ventilation system works brilliantly and I experienced no condensation in the tent. The full zipped net on the door is a really good feature. The alloy poles are very easy to insert making the tent a doddle to erect on my own. Once up you have loads of space and full standing height in a very stable design. I am not a windows fan and would prefer future models to dispense with the middle door window and to reduce the side windows to half there size. The tent is a bit pricey at the full retail price of £249 but is a top notch product. I would really like the option of a polycotton version, but with the Berghaus name I might need a mortgage to own one! A great tent.

If the tent is on display, inspect its' build & material quailty, if it looks no better than a similar tent by a well known brand at half the price, then you are just paying for the name. I notice BBC reporters in cold places all wear Berghaus jackets with the name prominently displayed. I'm guessing the BBC didn't pay much for these jackets.

Victoria 1 - I will hunt out some photographs of the Lomond 3 to upload.
Tentz - The quality and number of features of the Lomand 3 is well above other tents I have seen at half its price. Most other makes are available at a discount of at least 25% off full recommended retail price. If the Lomond 3 was sold on a similar basis the price would be £187.50p and at that price it would be well worth it against the competition. If you have a need for the tents fairly unique set of features, unfortunately you have to put up with paying for the Berghaus name, as they rarely discount their high quality products.

The Lomond 3 is reviewed in this months camping magazine. Just off the top of my head the comment was that it was dark inside but that would help with having a sleep in on a morning.

I quite like that.  It's a good design and looks from the pics that it would stand up well to rough conditions if it was pitched right.  I also agree that it seems a bit over priced, though I would have thought this would be a tent which will come down in price over the next few months

I have now uploaded photographs of the Berghaus Lomond 3.1 tent and put my brief review in the Tent Review section of this site.

Hi, just read your note about Berghaus tents - it seems they were overpriced.  today seen online the berghaus 3 man for £125 I think it was at Blacks.  I popped in to Blacks Exeter store and they had the six man Torridon for £200 - we are looking for a bigger family tent but my husband wants the steel poles of a Vermont, so looking at that too.
